I expected Psychocandy to do better than it did, and it would've been nice to have had at least one 'noise' album on there, and something from The Fall, but all things considered, while it is a fairly 'safe' line up, I imagine that most polls like this are.

i've the same idea

No shit. You posted your opinion, I posted mine. Whatever you read into my posts, I never said my opinion was definitive, just the drum sound on Loveless sucks and lots of people think so. I'm not proving a point; just saying, "Hey, lots of people think this! THat doesn't mean you have to think that!"

People don't have to keep going "duh it's personal taste!" This is a MESSAGE BOARD for DISCUSSION. Obviously people have opinions, otherwise it'd just be Moshe's news story posts.

atsonicpark 08.06.2008 01:21 PM

Also, Byron, I agree that Loveliescrushing wouldn't exist without Loveless. I still think all their albums are greater than Loveless. :)

PAULYBEE2656 08.06.2008 02:02 PM

i owe you an apology adam....... i think i may have picked you up a bit too literally.... yes the drum sound sucks on loveless but that doesnt matter in my opinion..its not a drum based album.....

dont you love opinons and their bringers... thats what makes this forum real good... opinionated stubborn bastards like you and me and them and us!

long live the bickering!!!

atsonicpark 08.06.2008 02:04 PM

Right, exactly. I think oftentimes people end up agreeing with me and vice-versa but it's hard to totally convey your feelings on certain things over the internet without going into complex details.

When I say "the drum sound sucks" it doesn't mean that I'm saying the album is 100% brought down by it... I just find the drums amusing and distracting at times and wish they had a better sound. Not really much else to say.

demonrail666 08.06.2008 02:08 PM

Loveless is an inventive album, and definitely influential, but it just wanders along too much for my ears. The whole things sounds vaguely unfinished. Like a series of sketches to be crafted into something coherent later.

atsonicpark 08.06.2008 02:09 PM

Yeah, I think that way too.

I really do like Isn't Anything, though it isn't flawless either. At least it rocks.

demonrail666 08.06.2008 02:17 PM

The only thing I really like on Isn't Anything is 'Feed Me with your Kiss'. The rest of it just washes over me. In the case of Loveless, had it been reduced to only 'When You Sleep', 'I Only Said', 'Come in Alone' and 'Soon' you'd have one of the greatest EPs imaginable, but too much of the rest seems slightly half-baked.

atsonicpark 08.06.2008 02:18 PM

"Feed me with your kiss" IS a masterpiece but so is "Sueisfine"...

I dunno, they're a good band. Just not great.

demonrail666 08.06.2008 02:21 PM

I dunno, maybe they are a great band, certainly enough people think they are. Maybe it's just that I don't like them much. Led Zeppelin are a great band, that I can't listen to at all. But they're still great.

atsonicpark 08.06.2008 02:23 PM

Well, I agree with that to an extent... but the same could be said about any band you don't like, because a lot of people will always love a band even if they're terrible.

For example, Mars Volta are not by any stretch of the imagination, a great band, despite fooling some people into believing they are. Haha.

Yes but I wouldn't respect the opinion of someone who described Mars Volta as great, but many people whose taste I do respect have described Led Zep or MBV as such.

atsonicpark 08.06.2008 02:34 PM

I can see that.

Yes, I was a little over the top there. I do also like '(When You Wake) You're Still in a Dream'. Although I do find the vocals on almost all MBV tracks really difficult to like.

atsonicpark 08.06.2008 02:40 PM

Aw, really? I think the vocals are the best part.

"You Made Me Realize" has some of the best vocals I've ever heard. Very melodic and harmonious... whoo!

demonrail666 08.06.2008 02:41 PM

Whatever my thoughts on it, I do like to think that there's an album made by a different band, released around the same period as the winner, that has been adopted so fully by SY fans. Of all the albums in that final ten, I'm sort of glad that Loveless is where it's at. What's more, I wouldn't be surprised if just such a list drawn up on a MBV board didn't have Loveless at number one and DDN at number two. Most people I know for whom MBV are their avourite band tend to like SY almost as much.
