What, the Strange Days EP or Undertow? I haven't listened to the former yet, but Undertow is pretty darn good. Wolf Eyes hasn't released an Album of the Year-level release in quite a while, but they're proving to be consistent. What I used to get from them, I feel like I now get from Ben Frost. Who also has a new somthin'-somethin' out this year. |
![]() That's Mr. Osterberg there, right? (Dunno why I'm asking — that's clearly the Pop...) |
Strange Days II. not mind blowing or anything, just a side of them i'm not familiar with.

New Billy Corgan prod by Rick Rubin coming in the fall.

Can you recommend me some good recent experimental electronics? I'm thinking something really angular, random and generally fucked up.

I forgot this officially announced. Cool. |
you are right

I like the songs released so far. But I don't think it's Haunted Graffiti anymore. Just Ariel Pink. Not sure though. Never been super into the guy, but I think Haunted Graffiti, the band, has been over for a while. |
I don't know if this was on anyone's radar--it certainly wasn't on mine--Preoccupations (formerly known as Viet Cong, which was formed by members from the band Women) released a 30 minute cassette.
On first listen I don't think it's that great, but I wasn't too fond of their last album and my mind has slowly changed on that over time. I'll have to give this one a few more listens. |

I didn't know this. Thanks for mentioning. I absolutely LOVED the first Viet Cong album. Loved it. But the Prepccupations album didn't have as strong an impact. I don't hate it, and I've grown to not think of it as a disappointment, but I'm just not as stoked on the direction that record took. I also think the name change was a silly idea, but I'm happy to listen to some new material. |

one of the bands that I really liked in all their incarnations. |
Yeah they've been solid throughout.
I changed my mind since I wrote that comment. I had only heard the first half when I wrote it. The tracks Structureless Design and maybe Select Your Drone are better than anything on their last album. |
I'm gonna give that new Queens Of The Stone Age a spin shortly.

Holy shit, there's a new Ben Frost full-length coming? Thank you! Sweet Jesus thank you for letting me know! Where has my brain been? |

Wait... I don't get it. Is this a Ben Frost dis? Sounds like a dis if my recent thoughts. Probably a Ben Frost dis. You don't like Ben Frost? How is AURORA not, like, a SYG-wide favorite album of the decade? |
because not everyone proclaims their hatred of pitchfork only to adore every mediocre hunk of crap they heap praise on. and because not everyone likes the sound of the THX intro run through ableton distortion.

The fuck man? I'm not saying you SHOULD like him, I'm just surprised you don't, for some reason. Fine with me either way. You really don't have to be a prick about it. Why would you be a prick about it? I just asked a damn question. And yet you just NEEDED to flex those balls at me. Be nice. |
Also, Pitchfork likes Ben Frost? Weird thing for a guy who hates Pitchfork and Ben Frost to know.

Update: the album is called Lotta Sea Lice and it'll be out on October 13. ![]() "Featuring... Mick Turner, Jim White, Stella Mozgawa, Rob Laakso, Mick Harvey, Jess Ribeiro, Jade Imagine, Bones Sloane, Dave Mudie, Alex Landragin" http://courtneybarnettandkurtvile.com/ https://courtneybarnettandkurtvile.b...lotta-sea-lice https://www.pastemagazine.com/articl...netts-col.html |
I'm turning around a bit on Kurt Vile. He's growing on me. I'll probably get this.

w/r/t the new LCD Soundsystem--really solid on first listen. A few songs on here remind me of Talking Heads.

The songs get really stuck in my brain space and lead to some dreary moods, so I've been listening less. But I agree. It's good. |
i hate to be one of THOSE people, but kurt vile was way better before he caught on. god is saying this to you and fall demons were phenomenal, but after that he turned into bob seger.
courtney barnette is cute as a button but i haven't tried her stuff. i assume it's generic contemporary folk that's been done to death? |
Quote:
Wrong you are. Best songwriter to emerge in AGES, and a bunch of her songs fuckin' ROCK. Well, they all rock, but I meant pedal to the metal rock. |
i'll check her out then.
but HOLY SHIIIIIT! i just got done listening to the new jan st werner (mouse on mars, lithops, microstoria). it is FUCKING INSANE. completely unlike anything he's done before. kinda reminds me of some merzbow i've heard. (not a merzbow fan though. i like noise, but there has to be some element of musicality to it for me to enjoy.) this is probably the closest thing to complete chaos that i've liked, but it's still fun to listen to. i will definitely be listening to this a lot. has kaitlyn aurelia smith been mentioned yet? her newest album is pretty sweet. track 2 is wonderful. |
the only album of interest to me I've seen that's coming out is the new Godspeed album "Luciferian Towers".
Knowing me, it'll be at least a few years before I get around to listening to it. |
oh shit Mogwai has a new record?! OK
|
Yeah I need to hear that.

there are two tracks streaming already on their bandcamp page that last song is awesome, can't wait to hear the first two sections of that Anthem For No State. don't like the first track so much yet, but it's definitely worth to listen it completely :) and more news from Constellation Records Esmerine will release their new album on 20 October 2017 |
Quote:
thanks! I'm checking that out |
I think right now is an excellent time for a little GY!BE in full-on combat mode. I want to hear some goddamn Trump voter audio samples in their new songs. My god that would be amazing.

Lydia Lunch/Rowland S. Howard - Siberia
“For the first time on vinyl, here it is this astonishing performance from 1993 where Lydia Lunch and Rowland S. Howard exposed the intensity and most extreme sound as well as their perfect harmony and fraternity. The band includes Jim Sclavunos (from Sonic Youth, The Cramps, Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds, etc.) and Harry Howard (from These Immortal Souls). An absolutely necessary recording for all fans of these magnificent artists. Released under license from WidowSpeak Productions.” |

I just read this album wasn't only produced by Jeff Tweedy, it was written by him. So all you Tweeders should BUY IT. |
