singing songs about j but they don't rock, eh?
NMH irritated the f out of me when i lived in athens...was never friendly with any of 'em even though we had friends in common...they do have some songs though...gardenhead, for instance... i think the title 'in the aeroplane over the sea' was influenced by the lyrics to an inxs song from the swing album johnson's aeroplane |

Nick Cave and the bad Seeds.
Nearly evrything from Birthday Party right up until "The Boatman's call" really turns me on in its own way. The few recent LPs have been MAJOR letdowns. + he was stached by Robinstigator and didn't get the joke, so he kept it (the stache) which is even more deceptive. I feel sorry for the man. Nada Surf excuse me you're allowed to insult me but the first three Lps were good. Recent stuff sucks balls. |

yeah she's disappointing
|
Radiohead and Neutral Milk aren't bad bands...
But I agree they are disappointing, and I think that echoes a post I made earlier in the thread... "disappointment" is definitely relative to how much hype a band gets.. which is a pretty obvious point to make, sure, but it's still worth stating again. Radiohead, I think, made one REALLY great albums, but look at a mediocre, boring shitfest like In Rainbows -- even people enthusiastic about that one when it came out don't give a shit about it now. If it was just some random band, it'd probably get a listen and I'd go, "Oh, that was alright." But since every fucking person/journalist/etc in America jerks off to Thom Yorke's lazy eye, that's where the disappointment comes in: If you were to actually bother listening to people, you'd think Radiohead were gods or something. When in fact they're just average in every way. Except kid A. That album's great. |
i love neutral milk hotel.

Feist!
I bought her album Let it Die a couple years back after hearing one of its singles that I enjoyed. The album as a whole is quite disappointing however. There are like 3 catchy/pretty songs on it... but the second half is a complete snooze. I had no desire to check out her most recent album, which has been hailed by critics as the second coming of Christ. My suspicions proved correct when that "1,2,3" song started making the rounds. That freakish Ipod commercial is one of the reasons I haven't watched TV in months. Essentially, she's a showboater who's showboating in songs that range from mediocre to dull. |
feist is awful, really really bad.
syd barrett disappointed me. |

there are actually some people around, atsonicpark, that were enthusiastic about In Rainbows when it came out and still love that record because it's great. Don't forget that. |
Joanna Newson
Coco Rosie Pavement often disappointed me A lot of that 8-bit - or whatever they fucking call it people now - stuff used to disappoint me on a regular basis, especially when people would to call their stuff ''reggae nintendo pop'' etc, and then all you'd hear was the same shite done with videogames or tinny-sounding electro versions of Mozart tunes. Semi-disppointed by Duran Duran Duran too. When I first heard his(?) music it was half very good and the other half shite. I listened to it the other day and it was better than what I remembered. Some music from people who post on here I found disappointing, especially when what I've heard didn't match the high expections. Kid 606 |
I totally agree with 8bit music. People do it just to be quirky, and it ruins it for the people who are actually serious about it.
|
I don't know how many serious 8-bit musicians you really get out there, and trust me, I have listened to so much of that stuff that will last me a lifetime. What I find deplorable about a lot of people on that scene is the fact that most of what they do was done already by people thirty, forty, fifty or sixty years ago. It seems like a big chunk of these people lack any real perspective of what's been done electronically before, therefore a lot of that music sounds to me often aimless and superflous.

today a neighbor said hello for the first time (he's lived here for two years yet just now says hello... weird). Anyways my roommate had Hail to the Thief playing and the guy complimented it. This is atsonicpark's America jerking off to Thom Yorke's eye.
anyways, more bands that dissappointed me (i.e. not you): Echo & the Bunnymen (do remember what I was expecting... more JAMC sounding?), Beat Happening, Chainsaw Kittens, Guided By Voices, The Lemonheads, The Replacements... too tired to think of more |

I'd add Can, Faust, Acid Mothers Temple, Miles Davis, Lightning Bolt. |
