Everyone get Fabric50 by Martyn and Rinse 11 by Oneman. The two best mixes of 2010 imo. Excellent dubstep showing all its diversity, ranging from techno influenced dubstep to uk funky to whatever. Perfect stuff.

SYRFox 03.05.2011 07:59 AM

Also, Exit Records Present Mosaic Vol 1 is one damn fine comp. I'm seriously into that Autonomic sound now. Probably the most interesting thing happening in d&b at the moment..

atsonicpark 03.05.2011 08:19 AM

fuck yeah, thanks fox. your post was the one I was waiitng for.

I got the new photek ep "AVALANCHe". It's great, but he's not doing drum and bass anymore! This ep is downright dubstep, at times, though it doesn't really sound like any other kind of electronic music I can easily identify. It still has his focus on technical details down, every little movement is fine-tuned, like a surgeon using a scalpel to make beats and melodies with. Great atmsopheres as usual. It's just a teaser for the eventual full length, which I'm suspecting will be the album of the year.

SYRFox 03.05.2011 09:06 AM

oh, i heard about that new dubsteppish photek ep but still haven't listened to it... will need to check it out, it's not the first time i hear it's awesome. thanks...
the record i'm most looking forward to at the moment is definitely egyptrixx's album, which should be out really soon (on monday, i think) on night slugs.. looks like it's gonna be one of the records of the year, judging from that awesome track on the night slugs compilation, the track with trust, and the mix he did on rinse in december... can't wait to hear it. he's playing lille in early april, i really hope i'll be able to see him (not sure as my exams are coming, too...)

this year is looking really great for dubstep and bass music in general... new albums coming from kode9 & the spaceape, faltydl, boxcutter, joker, hyetal, zomby, clueless, etc etc... can't wait to hear them all. also really eager to hear where that juke thing is heading to... have you heard those five new tracks zomby posted on his youtube channel, asp? they're awesome, somewhere between jungle and juke... check them out: http://www.youtube.com/user/wherewereuin92
judging from those tracks and the dubplates in oneman's and martyn's mixes i mentioned earlier in this thread (rumours & revolutions in particular), his new album is gonna be really great...
that africa hitech (mark pritchard + steve spacek) that's gonna be released on warp in may is looking like it's gonna be awesome... the first single from it melts juke with dubstep with dancehall with whatever and is totally killing me at the moment. http://warp.net/records/africa-hitec...in-the-streets

definitely sounds like a good year...

SYRFox 03.05.2011 09:10 AM

also, dour festival's line up is slowly released these days, and things are looking pretty huge for dubstep. I don't really care about doctor p and trolley snatcha, but the rest of the dubstep line up is mad so far:

digital soundboy soundsystem (feat. shy fx, breakage, b. traits w/ donaeo, youngman & stamina mc)
flying lotus
joy orbison
king midas sound
kode9 & the spaceape
lefto
martyn
night slugs (l-vis 1990 b2b bok bok)
pearson sound aka ramadanman
the gaslamp killer
true tiger label (sukh knight, scandalous unltd, stenchman, blue bear & mc chunky)
untold

damn.

also: the new fabriclive mix by pearson sound aka ramadanman is promising too, can't wait to get my hands on it

Has anyone mentioned DatsiK ?? That's some good shit.

atsonicpark 03.05.2011 07:05 PM

fuck yeah, fox, your musical reccomendations always blow me away, and keep me busy for months. good man.

no man. i mean... datsik has some good tracks... swagga with excision is pretty fun... but you should really dig deeper into dubstep if you only know datsik, cause there is far, far, far better music in that style than a guy whose tracks mostly consist of various wobbles over a basic beat. really. basically, check out most of the bands that have been recommended in this thread... it's worth it. though in the end, obviously, it's all about taste...

Surprised in 8 pages Inspector Dubplate hasn't been mentioned. He was hardcore live, but I was half asleep during his set since it was 5:00am.

just as datsik actually, i'm not too into that kind of too-filthy midrange wobble dubstep... it can be super fun live, and i like some tunes (sweet shop by doctor p, woo boost by rusko, swagga by excision & datsik), but usually it bores me quite quickly. I'm usually more into deeper dubstep... though i think there's a place for both.

when it comes to insane wobblers, coki is untouchable, i believe. that is because his tracks do not sound like he wants to do "the most filthy thing ever, dirtier than fingering yr sister" whatever, they sound totally unhealthy.
horrid henry for instance is probably one of the most terrific tunes i've ever heard. sounds like someone getting tortured or something. completely mad.

SYRFox 03.06.2011 05:49 AM

skream - wibbler is another fantastic heavy wobbling track. kills me everytime.

Yeah I know more bands than datsik, haha. Ive heard of most of them that are mentioned in the thread already.
Ofcourse there are way better stuff than just him yeah, but I recommended it since I like it pretty simple aswell.

19 minutes sampler of Instra:Mental's forthcoming album, Resolution 653. Great stuff.

thanks! gotta check that essential mix kode9 made last week, awesome stuff. ranges from dubstep to uk funky to juke/footwork to various other things, tight mixing. highly recommended; he plays some new tracks off his forthcoming album too which sound awesome.

atsonicpark 03.13.2011 02:48 PM

DUDE

fox

i may have mentioned it in another thread, who knows

but it's re-blowing my mind

every time i listen to it, it blows my mind

get Multistability by MARK FELL

it's not dubstep perse. i'm not sure what genre it'd be in.

the closest thing i can honestly compare it to is something like autechre, or if ryoji ikeda didn't exclusive work with high pitched sounds haha.

every song kinda sounds like a beat/section being stretched in some weird way, like a rubber band that keeps snapping back. but what really is mindblowing is when you pay attention to what's going inside the "riubber band". beats that change/EVOLVE in a very very autechre ish fashion, repetetive but ALWAYS changing... it's a masterpiece of beats that are constantly attacking the speakers. it's so fucking addicting. wow.

SYRFox 03.13.2011 03:01 PM

sounds awesome! getting this now, thanks a lot.
isn't mark fell a member of SND? or am i mixing things up? anyway, i love snd.

sounds like what i needed, too... i'm into a lot of different things lately.

SYRFox 03.13.2011 03:56 PM

also, adam, i guess you have already listened to that "fünf" compilation ostgut ton put out last year, but if you did not, check it out. one of the most impressive compilations i've ever heard... nihilistic techno at its best. industrial beats, massive bass, little to no melody, sloooow progression. terrific, and dark.

loubarret 03.14.2011 07:46 AM

Egyptrixx's album is great overall, not over the whole lenght but it makes for a amazing record
