Maybe dispise is too strong. But I don't like this band, I find them overrated.

Pixies are one of the most likeable bands ever.

So are my mate's band. Doesn't make them seminal, or even any good.

The Pixies' rise has always slightly baffled me. They came along at a time when far more interesting things were happening. You could always tell a Pixies fan at that time because, if they were blokes they looked like members of Buffalo Tom, and had girlfriends that looked like Kristin Hersh. Needless to say, if they were girls they looked like Kristin Hersh and had boyfriends that looked like members of Buffalo Tom. Weird but true.

The reason the pixies are so highly regarded.. it's kinda like the misfits... EVERYONE, from metalheads to punks to goth kids, whatever, like the misfits.. I've noticed this about the pixies.. you don't necessarily have to be into early 90's alternative rock in order to appreciate the pixies. That's why they're so well-regarded: a wide VARIETY of people like them. You might be the biggest band in.. noise.. or something, but you're more "important" if only a few people like you from different sects of life than a bunch of the same people liking you.

Hmm... You must not know many people then... I think I have only ever met like 3 non-adult people who have not heard the Pixies. They're fairly huge.

i know a lot of people that don't know the pixies but anyone that i know that listens to or heard any sort of underground rock knows the pixies.

Yeah.. I mean, of the hundred plus people i've associated with, only about 3 dont' know who they are. I'm sure some random redneck guy has never heard them, but... I'd say a good 35% of the united states has at least HEARD OF the pixies..
