actually the approach that matt carlson took on this album, doesn't sound too new to me. It reminds me a lot about the German composer with the moniker AGF - manipulation of human voice + glitches and crackles. |

I am now very much looking forward to this absurdly titled Flaming Lips album that will apparently be out "soon."
I'm excited to have a Lips project on the horizon that isn't a covers album, or a mini-album from an "imaginary" band that just sounds like bored Flaming Lips, or, y'know, a Miley Cyrus album. So throw Flaming Lips "Oczy Mlody" () up on my most anticipated albums list. ![]() ![]() |

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to Diesel again. |
Looking forward to:

oh sweet. which of her albums should i check out? add to the list the new john chantler. he impresses me more w/ each release. the new biosphere is up there w/ shenzou. some of the stranger things score is pretty cool. the kaitlyn aurelia smith & suzanne ciani FRKWYS is real good, but not as good as their solo releases of this year. battle trance is overtone goodness, but i don't know how original it is. still good though. sarah davachi's devotion is alright. i want to hear her other upcoming releases though. lonely island popstar soundtrack is disappointing. i like comedy music but those songs are flat and uninspired compared to their snl stuff. |
![]() d/p/i - composer [shelter press] ![]() ryan martin & joachim nordwall - trance beneath the streets [ideal] ![]() lanark artefax - glasz [uiq] ![]() zomby - ultra [hyperdub] |
Wow, apparently there's a new Botany album out in mid-October. This is exciting. Both of his LP's thus far have been excellent. 2013's Lava Diviner (True story) is one of my favorite albums of this decade, and last year's Dimming Awe, The Light is Raw, though not quite as impressive, still ranked among my favorites of that year.
So, definitely putting this on the most anticipated list. Botany - ![]() |

This is a great one. Liking it a lot. Haven't heard the new Zomby yet, but planning on it. |
new Zomby is great. DJ Earl's album is brilliant. watch out for DVA's upcoming album on Hyperdub - proper mad stuff on there

I've streamed the new DJ Earl and you're absolutely right, it kills. Been looking forward to a full length from him since I first encountered him on Planet Mu's Bangs & Works series. Love his EP's, but this new one is just great, for sure. Ordered the Zomby album this morning. I'm a big fan of Where Were U in '92, but I wasn't quite as fond of With Love. Still good though. You have excellent taste, sir. Or Madame. |
I'm actually really surprised by how much I'm liking ultra, I mean I understand goodman isn't going to put out anything subpar but I had really given up on zomby after with love (which was an utter fucking slog of a record in the worst possible way) and heard his last 12"s out and was appalled by how utterly lazy they were -- mind, dedication and to a lesser extent where were u were great, as was the nothing 12". but ultra is pretty much everything I had ever hoped for/ultimately never expected from zomby: really nuanced, developed ideas put together really delicately/thoughtfully. beautifully crafted melodies and overall structures that actually resolve themselves rather than fading out or just ending altogether. he's always been able to make really great sounds, especially for a club context, but this is just a whole other level, really happy with this one. sweetz fucking bangs.
hyperdub are truly on fire again at the moment, really excited for the hi:emotions record, hopefully he'll do the same thing and really capitalise on some insane talent as pretty ugly was a cool record but not that durable in hindsight. /// the new d/p/i is indeed stunning, sad to see this project end as it's the best thing alex gray has done, real talent that guy. |

No! I mean, yes, but [raspberry noise]. If you're gonna NPR it up, better spend your time on Flock Of Dimes' If You See Me, Say Yes (streaming for a few more hours, as the official release date is tomorrow). |
New Wilco is good.
New Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds is, like, really good. New Kool Keith is awesome. |

Oh wow, shit! I forgot about this! Thank you! Just bought the unpronounceable thing. Really liked the song you posted. ESTOILE NAIANT was one of my favorite albums of 2014, which was really one of the best years for electronic music in recent memory. It was just a really absorbing and unexpectedly excellent record. Looking forward to giving Ψ (what a title) a bunch of back to back listens. |

That kind of sucks. This doesn't. John Prine teaming with an all-star array of female singers to tackle carefully chosen vintage country tunes http://www.npr.org/2016/09/22/494572...etter-or-worse |
I guess Nicolas Jarr has a new album in the can and ready to go, according to Resident Advisor and Pitchfork.
SIRENS drops Sept. 30 on Other People LLC. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() Pretty great packaging. Just wish I could find his "Blood on the Leaves" remix from earlier this year on sale somewhere. |
My favorite albums of the year have done some shifting around over the last few months. The top spot remains the same, but as for the rest... quite different from the ranking in the spring.
Won't bore myself or anyone else by retreading old ground, but the following albums have laid claim to the upper reaches of my list. Previously, they were either not yet released, or I hadn't fully grasped their excellence: Autechre - Elseq1-5 Christian Fennesz & Jim O'Rourke - It's Hard For Me to Say I'm Sorry Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds - Skeleton Tree Ian William Craig - Centres Pantha Du Prince - The Triad Aphex Twin - Cheetah EP The Dead C - Trouble Jefre Cantu-Ledesma - In Summer Preoccupations - s/t |
