NR, you'd better listen to Barter 6. Don't misunderstand me here... I'm not saying "this album sucks, don't you dare bother listening to it!"
I'm saying, "this album sucks, am I right?" I respect my own opinion immensely, but at the same time I need to hear from you and louder about this stuff. I've misjudged albums before. Remember when I didn't like any pre-DTF Kanye? Ha!! |
just got the KMD reissue in the mail. Big children's book style packaging, bonus disc w/ all the bsides, demos and instrumentals and a 7".

You must spread some Reputation around before giving it to noisereductions again.

RAEKWON - FLY INTERNATIONAL LUXURIOUS ART
... (Image upload and ubb code aren't working for me right now for some reason, but imagine the cover is right about... Here! All big and attention getting.) Hey ... Why isn't anyone talking about this? Like, at all? Is it because it's been delayed for almost 2 years? Because the cover art is really stupid? Or is it just that we only like Ghostface now? I'm gonna grab this mufuh ASAP. |
![]() There we go... That work? |
Look at that dumb little face! It would be ok if he didn't put his own dumb face on the fucking wu-sphinx!
Still, Picasso 2 was dope. Shaolin vs. Wu-Tang was dope. I'm sure this will be predictably dope as well. |
Awful artwork, but i didnt even realize it was out.

Well, it officially drops on Tuesday, April 28th, but it's been in the works for a while. First single associated with the project came out in 2013. I don't remember this actually, but according to Wikipedia, that's how it went down. 2 singles in 2013, 2 this year, and a string of push-backs and delays in-between. I've heard the name ("FILA") floating around for some time, so I knew it was overdue, but I don't know anything else about it. I'm a bad Wu-fan. I hope it slays. I really do. If Wu-Tang isn't going to cough up Once Upon a Time in Shaolin, then fuck them... I'm more than happy to just start following Ghost, Rae, Deck, Gza (if he ever makes another album) and Meth as solo artists if Wu-Tang Clan (RE: Rza) is going to soil its legacy with half assed albums and bullshit attention games. Man With the Iron Fists 2 my fucking ass. |
No matter how hard I try, I just can't get into the new ICP cd.
Damn shame I tell ya. |
Its because its 2015 and you've finally come to your senses. This is a good moment for you, you can grow and move forward now.

Gotta agree with SFAD. There's a perfectly natural reason that ICP no longer sounds good to you, and it's that you are (presumably) a reasonably intelligent adult who does not suffer from sociopathy or antisocial personality disorder. If you want horror rap, shit... There are so many great places to look! Hell, here's a freebie: ![]() If you have some nostalgic loyalty to ICP, then... I don't know. Play Riddle Box on Spotify once a year (remember to turn off Facebook sharing) And if you're just into a, ah.. paler ... breed of '90s rap acts, fucking throw on Temple of Boom or some shit! Cypress Hill still holds up pretty well, believe it or not. But please don't try to like ICP. You're not supposed to. I'll worry if you keep this up. --- EDIT: holy shit! Is is true that they've released SIX new albums and one new Forgotten Freshness volume in 2015 alone?! What the skullfuck?!! |
where did you see 6 albums? They have released Missing Link Lost this year, one album. And Missing Link Found will come out later this year. That's it.
|
mixtape of the year drops tomorrow: http://pitchfork.com/news/59143-towk...en-only-knows/

Spotify. It's showing a massive amount of 2015 releases that I've never seen before. I didn't investigate beyond looking at the main album page, so I guess these releases could be part of a reissue series, or maybe eps? I don't know. Take a look. |
Nah those were just added this year, all old stuff.

Hey guys, y'all need to listen to this shit A$AP. Got my hands on FILA, and while the production is quite different from the of school Rae we all love, but much of it still has a solid Wu feel... Ferocious gangsta shit, spastic scratches, Snoop guest spots. But there's also a distinctively more modern sound at play on many of the tracks... Melodic chorus samples, uplifting beats... Chipmunk soul vox? Yup. Yup to it all. But the best tracks are this motherfucking bomb ass joint right here, with A$AP Rocky, the surprisingly hot track with 2 Chainz, and "Live to Die," which finds Rae at his story telling best. Narrating street drama like it was fuckin' 93. Raekwon Feat. A$AP Rocky - “I Got Money” >> YOUTUBE This is a promising album, for sure. Even French Montana sounds good to me on this record. listen so we can all start spazzing out about it together!! The song is genuinely sick, and there's a bit of a "passing of the torch" quality to it. |

Hmm. Weird. Not the first time Spotify has fucked up by dating things according to when it was put on the service rather that when it came out. They are actually remarkably shitty at accurately representing artist's discographies. Anyway the Marvelous Missig Link (Lost) is out tomorrow. Anyway, sorry to be a hater. I had fun listening to Riddlebox when I was young, and I admire their absolute ambivalence to mass opinion. That's something, right? |
Quote:
it is. Yes. A friend of mine said it best: "I don't like their music, but I respect their grind." Personally I just shrug off the ICP hatred. Honestly, they have stuff that I find really fun, and stuff I find really bad. Whatever. I've noticed the Spotify date confusion stuff as well. For instance, they list 12 Reasons To Die as a 2013 album, but then the deluxe edition as a 2014 album. RE: Raekwon, I will check it out soon. Unfortunately even though it has been a long time coming, it can't really compete w/ the wait that a new Blur album has been for me! |
Quote:
You're a Blur fan? Shit! I didn't realize! 13 is one of my favorite albums ever. I keep wasting to make a thread about the Magic Whip (and about Faith No More's Sol Invictus), but I've heard like zero discussion about it here. I have the album btw. Got an early promo, so I've had some time to form an opinion. First listen was frustrating, as there were few moments of the kind of spacious, epic pop that I have come to expect from Blur. But now I'm digging it. Like a latter day REM release, it's just a great band finding a way to stay great without turning their sound completely inside out. It lacks the extreme experimentation of 13 and Think Tank (closer to the latter actually) but there are some golden moments for sure. I really like it. I think Blur is finally receiving some long overdue mainstream international press acknowledgment for being a furiously fearless band, for whom the label "Brit-pop" was always an oversimplification of insulting proportions. To call Blur Brit-pop is to call the Beatles "British invasion." May have been true initially, but they transcended and became infinitely more complex than the category itself less than halfway into their career. In a perfect world, they would have been the biggest band of the '90s. True inheritors to the Beatles legacy. Or maybe the Kinks legacy. The Stone Roses legacy? All three and then some? Whatevs, Blur rules. Glad to have them back. Gonna see me a gig this time around. |
yup, big/longtime Blur fan.
s/t and 13 are amazing records. Both brilliant in completely diff ways. Modern Life Is Rubbish is way way up there as well for me. Think Tank was fair, but the lack of Graham was hugely hurting. Agreed on the "britpop" thing.... I mean, fuh, their breakthru in the US was the s/t record which was itself pretty inspired by Graham's love of US indie rock anyway. And 13 is just something else altogether. So spacey and pretty. |
![]() Mang, these dudes sure had some depressing drama and unfortunately Phife comes across aa quite an asshole.. not that Tip didn't instigate that shit but clearly phife had a lot of issues ro resolve and decided to go for angst rather than resolution. shit this documentary almost ruined tribe for me Glad they more or less worked it all out |
Its also weird how the love movement is totally my favorite Tribe record and its clearly their least favorite
|
didn't ruin anything for me, but def made them feel more human. I love Tribe so so much, and always wish that they'd finally decide to reunite for another album.
Love Movement is far from my favorite. But it's still a good album. Im' sure they hate it more for bitter memories - they were pretty much breaking up while recording it. |
Love Movement is kinda like ATCQ's Let it Be.
Got nothing against it, but it was the end, and that sucked. I'm a Midnight Marauders guy, with a peculiarly strong affection for People's Instinctive Travels..., which is probably my second favorite. Love Movement is probably better than Beats, Rhymes & Life. For me anyway. |
Oh, heads up folks. This new Oddisee album is pretty damn good.
![]() We don't talk about him (or Black Milk, or Blu or Open Mike or... Shit... ANY MellowMusicGroup acts) in this thread, like, at all, but despite hating Kanye West, he's a pretty consistently good producer and emcee. He's a pretty damn prolific figure in hip-hop, and I've enjoyed what I've heard over the years. But his new album drops on May 5th. Listening to it now, and liking what I'm hearing. Give it a listen. |
I just love the sound, flow, and feel of TLM its just such a prototypical 1998 record like Aquemini or DJ Quik Rhythmalism. For that to me it enters into the realm of "classic"..
I mean Find My Way.. Busta Bust.. Da Booty..Step It Up..Like it like that.. |
Earl just dropped a new 10 minute track.
http://pitchfork.com/news/59438-earl...leases-solace/ well it's more like 4 tracks combined into one. either way, this shit's nuts. |
Surf is supposedly coming out this week!! FINALLY!!
|
Tribe studio albums for me go:
Midnight Marauders Beats Rhymes & Life The Low End Theory People's Instinctive Travels The Love Theory now it should be noted that even the last album on the list is a great album. Tribe was the best. THE BEST! |
agreed.
|
that Towkio tape is full of EDM joints. it's cool and the production is really good, but i expected more soulful songs like Heaven Only Knows and at last it turned out to be the best song on the tape.
|
i read that So Help Me God is meant to be "for the people" and has similar vibes to Graduation. which is great news for me. i need soul rap to make a comeback. maybe more rappers will get inspired by Kanye, Chance, Kendrick, etc to make music inspired by the roots of black music.

I love, love, love Graduation. |
Quote:
Graduation is so uniquely and singularly awesome. It's hard to even say why, but it just annihilates College Dropout and even LR. For a completely non-aggressive album, it sounds more authentic than anything else from its time. Just a perfect hip-hop album, with something for everyone and nothing that's too this or too that... Ye's second best album. I doubt anything will actually sound like Graduation. Like... ever. But I'm all for an album with a similar energy. |
"Good Morning" is one of the most perfect opening songs of all time. Up there with "Teen Age Riot," "Sunday Morning," "Disorder" etc.
|
I was gonna post almost the same thing. That song is incredible.
|
Quote:
Yeah. I can't imagine actually making a top ten list of Kanye songs... what an undertaking! ... But if I did, that's one I would most certainly include. Along with "Everything I am" and "Runaway" (of course). |
"I Wonder".. WOW.
|
Black Messiah is still fucking epic. one of the best albums of the decade.
