I used to occasionally have periods, when I was suffering with depression, when I would look through my CDs and not be able to see anything that I wanted to listen to. There is no answer to what to do about it, it'll pass though. Jon Boy's post (#17 in the thread) gives an excellent pointer though.

yeah, that's just a phase. it happens. burned out. i throw on my copy of This Mortal Coil's Filigree and Shadow, and Stars of the Lid. i highly recommend those two for this situation.

When i feel burned out, only something in line of Cocteau Twins/Sundays and this kind of happy indie manages to help me out a bit.

I have had short periods like that, but they only would last a few days. I often take a 3 day break from music and it's fine after that. My overall emotional connection to a lot of music isn't as strong because of how often I listen to it (especially for bands like Sunn0))) and hardcore artists). I'm sure you can wait it out

when i am feeling such musical brunout it usually is a signal that your brains and ears need something "fresh", supa FRESH

If you have never ever devoted time to enjoying Jazz, or classica, or something like that, then now is the time my friend. You need to keep your brain spicy.

whatever you ahve never gotten into, whatever genre, or type of music, figure it out.
if it is country or jazz or blues or funk or whatever, or old rock, or soul, find out from people, either here or people you know in the world, what they recommend in those genres.

you will then have fresh sounds, and when you go back to your old stuff, you will be able to tell what old stuff was good at first and is now not good to you, and what ol stuff holds up.

rock on
