pretty much agree with Savage Clone here, but here is my top 5:

Guru Guru: UFO and/or Hinten
Ash Ra Tempel: (the 1st One)
Amon Duul II: Dance of the Lemmings
Faust: IV
Agitation Free: Malesch

Have any of you ever heard Planet Of Man - Code III?
I still don't know which is the album name and which is the band name, but I got to hear it when I was working for the record store and it sold for about 120 bucks.
Definitely good stuff; I don't know if there is a reissue LP, but I think it's out on CD. I really liked that one.

Edit:
It's on the Delta Acustic label and involves Klaus Schulze. I think he produced it and maybe played on it. Details are fuzzy. I think the band is Code III and the album name is Planet Of Man.

NEU! - S/T

I don't really listen to many other Krautrock bands all that much other than that tbh.

i have some vague memory of that album and klaus schulze involvement, but nothing concrete. i won't mislead by adding my assumptions.

@ savage clone:

you mention witthüser&westrupp; they way you spell it makes me think you're not living in germany, are you? i am, which means i can understand the words, and to me, their lyrics oftentimes are too cheesy and hippiesque. but if you don't understand what they're singing, it must be dead cool, though quite trashy.

I'm not well-versed or well-collected in kraut rock myself. I have and like Neu!, and I have the Monks--but are the Monks really kraut rock?!

last week i was unable to get to sleep so i put on Tago Mago, i think i passed to another dimension, it was amazing.
I have 3 Can albums and thats all that could be considered Krautrock, but they are all inc-red-i-ble.

sonikold 03.10.2007 06:41 PM

ash ra tempel-s/t
amon duul ii- yeti
can- monster movie, tago mago, ege bamyasi

a few other ones i've been enjoying lately:
agitation free- s/t
embryo- father son and holy ghosts
walter wegmuller- tarot
guru guru- ufo (waaay too many drugs!)
kraftwerk- K4 Bremen 1971 (kraftwerk+neu>jesus)

Where's the love for Kanguru and the self titled Guru Guru records? Immer Lustig!

pokkeherrie 03.22.2007 12:15 PM

out of the two Krautrock albums I've heard, Neu's first album is definitely my fave.

I didn't mention Kanguru because i unfortunately don't have it and never heard it, though i've been wanting to for a long long time, its their 2nd album between the amazing albums UFO and Hinten. Kanguru is a such an expensive import cd its just ridiculus...

How uncanny! I'm a relative new owner of Ege Bamyasi (my first ever Can LP), and I had incredibly bizarre dreams last week after playing it before going to bed.
