Same for me... and then I'd probably go for VU in the end, even though it would be without John Cale.

Off list I think early Black Sabbath or The Theater of Eternal Music would be great as well. But if sonicl's paying I'd go to any of these, even the Grateful Dead to find out what they were actually like. I've been avoiding them like the plague so far.

Some famous gigs in 1969 were of course Woodstock and the Beatles' rooftop concert.

ALIEN ANAL 03.16.2007 08:39 AM

id go either the doors or VU

sonicl 03.16.2007 08:58 AM

My parents' concert-going days were in the late 1950s, but they were quite square, and the only concert I think I can remember being mentioned was someone like Pat Boone. No rock 'n' roll stories from them, I'm afraid.

a guy i used to play in a band with drove jimi hendrix to the ilse of white festival, apparantly he was sick on his van.

fishmonkey 03.16.2007 09:20 AM

Velvet Underground, good thread sonicl

Cantankerous 03.16.2007 09:53 PM

i am so fucking torn between the stooges and the stones. if it were a double bill i would bend over backwards to get into that show.

Norma J 03.16.2007 10:00 PM

I picked Jimi. I saw the Stones the year after.

Everyneurotic 03.16.2007 10:05 PM

the stooges followed closely by king crimson.

then again, i would go around the u.s. trying to catch as many garage bands as possible. then go to england and do the same. then go live in germany.

ZEROpumpkins 03.16.2007 10:16 PM

Woodstock. There you can see Hendrix, The Who and Greatful Dead.

Brett Robinson 03.16.2007 11:08 PM

in 1969... um... gotta be Sabbath.

Everyneurotic 03.16.2007 11:22 PM

i thought of sabbath too.

why see the velvets in 1969 when you could have seen them in 1966?

my sentiments exactly.

something 03.17.2007 02:17 AM

led zeppelin i mean come on now hearing them play a bunch of stuff from 2 and self titled and getting to see jimmy rock out on a telecaster

Cantankerous 03.17.2007 02:19 AM

led zeppelin didn't really perfect their live shows until 1973-1975. i have a zeppelin DVD set and the 1969 show is kind of loose and disorganized. plus, by the 70s dazed and confused stretched out to like a 1/2 hr long.

Second that.

HECKLER SPRAY 03.17.2007 07:58 AM

Franck Zappa or Captain Beefheart, both if it's possible.

Torn Curtain 03.17.2007 10:28 AM

Tim Buckley because he was awesome in 1969.

That's great....I always look at that "Who's played here" sign when I go to Merriweather.

I voted for 1969 powerhouse Led Zeppelin, you whores.

In 1969? You crazy, dogg.
I'd go to the VU.

Everyneurotic 03.17.2007 11:11 PM

looking at the poll, i would also love to have seen pink floyd, they were at their peak in '69!
