yea the first 2 saints records are punk classics and some of the best material to ever come out of australia. Also any of the birthday party's material. Wonder what it would have been like if nice cave and scott bailey got together and collaborated?

Verlaines-Juvenilia

Aren't several of those actually NZ bands?

baby bulldog 07.30.2007 11:14 PM

There's some fuckin' GREAT black metal coming out of Australia right now.

I'm not that big on Striborg (signed to Southern Lord), but Sadistik Exekution and Drowning the Light are both amazing.

Also, Reverend Kriss Hades of Sadistik Exekution has released a couple solo records, and both are incredible avant/metal/noise jams.

It was good. That band change their sound pretty drastically each album and they usually take a fair bit of time between albums too, so they as people change a fair bit aswell I guess. So it was interesting seeing what he thought of that album now. They focused on that album but had footage of them over their career, showed footaqe of Van Dyke Parks recording during that album too, he was saying he hadn't seen anyone like Daniel Johns since Brian Wilson - which is a pretty nice thing to be said about you.

It was good.

Only recently I realized that The Verlaines had Bruce Russell of The Dead C in their ranks.

I was gonna say Alastair Galbraith, but then he's from New Zeland too.

Finances won't allow me to order the Triffids one yet, but I will get it some time.

It's a shame from my point of view that there's not a Nick Cave one, but I'll live without it, I guess.

Perhaps there will be. Perchance they've made 4 episodes to see the ratings and then continue on from there? Hopefully. It is SBS though (independent network).

Overall, Bon is better with more great AC/DC rockers to his credit, yes, but their first w/o him (BACK IN BLACK) is their best platter.

SonicSam 07.31.2007 05:39 PM

Can't say I know too many Aussie bands. Cat power and bailter space are good.

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 07.31.2007 08:20 PM

I'm a big fan of silverchair.
Listening to frogstomp now. It's the amazing teh talent they had.
Recording a #1 album at the age of 15 is quite a feet.

drrrtyboots 07.31.2007 08:22 PM

Dirty Three is a great band so...all albums by them. Even though only one of them lives down below.

I can't find a more apt thread to post this on. Fans of Lubricated Goat, check out Monroes Fur: http://blackeyerecords.blogspot.com/...ur-1-eyed.html

Mesh Gear Fox has some nice albums, that's why I'm always advertising him in my sig.

sarramkrop 07.08.2008 04:36 AM

I was expecting Mesh Gear Fox's music to sound more 8Bit than it does.
