etc...i don't think any of that shit is above 8th grade level. then again i remember some kids were still reading harry potter so it depends.

and i think they made us read of mice and men in school but i'm pretty sure i read the first page and tossed it aside.

I don't remember most of the books that I read when I was that age...basically just whatever was on the bookshelf in our classroom at school. I think I read a lot in elementary school, but not as much in junior high. I'm pretty sure I liked "A Wrinkle In Time" a lot, and the other books in that series. I liked adventure books. I think I read "Treasure Island" eight times and finally the librarian at my school just let me keep the book. I also loved Roald Dahl books, especially "Danny, The Champion of the World." If you can find one of his short story collections, I think that would be a good choice. I guess I wasn't so much into the very girly books. Most things I read could appeal to both boys and girls.

At that age I enjoyed "Animal Farm" and "The Wasp Factory".

ah man, burroughs books aren't boring! i've read em all except his trilogy (not the nova trilogy but the other one), "junky", and "the yage letters". i also have his spoken word albums. he rocks.
