Daydream Nation.
i gave my copy of Sister to my older brother and then all his CDs were stolen, so i haven't listened to it in over a year. |
SiSTer is my all time fave.
|
Tough call, but man, we're talkin' bout TUFF GNARL, SCHIZOPHRENIA, CATHOLIC BLOCK, WHITE CROSS, and COTTON CROWN!!! Those are some amazing songs!
Daydream Nation is my 2nd favorite though. |

It changes for me all the time, but these two have always been my top two SY albums. I am actually listening to sister right now. I like sister because its shorter and more sparatic and definitely an "easier" listen. Daydream Nation is an awesome mix of soundscapes and pure rock. Its longer and sometimes takes more patience if your not in the mood for all the extended outros and whatnot. But both are amazing albums and will always be two of my favorite records of all time!

sister is my favorite SY record
|
i used to not like daydream, mainly due to the production, but instrumentally, this album is superior. there's some amazing songs in it and the interplay it's just amazing.
i don't have sister, but i have heard songs live and all, i like the punkiness and austerity in all. the energy is amazing. |
one word: *sister*
|
Sister
although these are their 2 best |
daydream nation just about shades it for me. two great albums

Sister is my all time favourite Sonic Youth album.

I prefer Daydream Nation. Even though I have Sister it doesn't affect me as nearly as much as Daydream Nation

they're both amazing albums but I prefer Daydream for some reason |
Sister... Sister all the way. more concise, corporeal and shard like.

Soooooo Sorry But, Some Disagree!!!! Sister was pre Daydream Nation & for that alone I belive it rocks more. It's funny the only album people I've met or people here in KY only like DDN & I'm like you don't <3 The Youth the way I do!!! & that's the only album besides Goo & Dirty that they will give a try. I play Washing Machine & other SY stuff like instrumental & people say it's weird!!! |
In Sister, for the very first time, Sonic Youth became more than just a noise-rock band. They fused their avant-garde noise jam with the tight, structured, concise melodies present in the best pop songs. They rocked off their socks on Sister, that's why I like it so.

i went with sister, just because of catholic block, although i do like it more as an album as well,
ddn is great but hey |
Daydream Nation
|
I really can't say. Sister is amazing and with all sorts of wonderfully dark imagery while Daydream Nation is just one big beautiful excursion through... well I don't know, it's just big and cool. I love them both.
