I'm getting lamer with the covers lately...

I am down ith all these except the police with kanye and john mayer. that shit's three steps back with bow tie flava.

Yeah, they're only the best live band in the entire world right now.

I recently came up with my assessment after comparing The Police bootlegs from 2007 with Sonic Youth's.

"Re-tread," eh?
Seems to me Sonic Youth played multiple shows this year showcasing an album released in 1988.

And, of course, they usually play some older material anyway.

Although it is true that Sonic Youth do routinely comprise the majority of their setlists with material from their current album, which isn't always the safest choice.

"Anything connected with Sting," eh?
I'm just curious as to the tremendous personal problem you have with Sting. Obviously it's serious enough to provoke you to write such jabber. He's a multi-instrumentalist, and by all critical accounts of the reasonably sane, a rather gifted songwriter and bassist. His voice isn't bad either.

Rob Instigator 10.23.2007 05:07 PM

I hate his musical decisions. I hate his decision to destroy the Police originally. I hate his mangling of Police classics on the new tour. Sting is hated by me for many many reasons.
I ESPECIALLY HATE STING ofr his atrocious "re-mix" of Dobn't Stand So Close To Me '86. FUCKING DESERVING OF VIRULENT next level HATE

atari 2600 10.23.2007 05:11 PM

It's not the original, but it's not that bad. Besides, it was cool to get a new song, even if it isn't the best song, when The Singles came out. I bought the cassette.

Anyway, I didn't feel as cheated because I feel that the slower song version isn't all that bad.

I think the members of The Police, and this is evident in some of their interviews in '83 and also on the VH-1 press conference preceding the 2007 tour, mutually decided to disband. They had conquered the world and were just plain tired of world-touring, and even recording by then. The Police were the pioneers in bringing live western rock music to many areas of the world that never had been exposed previously.

Atari, didn't you call Smashing Pumpkins' United States a "so-so wannabe epic"?

LittlePuppetBoy 10.23.2007 06:21 PM

I'm not that big a fan of Bloc Party's new stuff. Sounds too "mainstream-indie".

atari 2600 10.23.2007 07:05 PM

Yeah, I did. I guess that comes off as rough. It's still a good song, one of the best of the first half of this year or so.

atsonicpark 10.24.2007 03:04 AM

Seeing "Smashing Pumpkins" among true greats makes me weep like a fucking baby.

Norma J 10.24.2007 06:24 AM

Bloc Party are cool.

I'm pretty sure this song is from the remix album, which actually has nothing to do with Bloc Party other than their permission?

I think you're wrong, it says that it's the official video, as you can see :

and yet, whilst all of that is true, in the end, he remains ineffably sting, and we all know what that means.

eatmychild 10.24.2007 07:23 AM

Bardo Pond's Flux is godly.

PAULYBEE2656 10.24.2007 08:08 AM

stop talking about gang of four wanna bes bloc party. they suck. their first album had about 4 decent tracks on it and they were the first four, after that it was instantly forgettable. commend atari on decent compilations instead. part 2 would be appreciated big time sir!

Man I LOVE The Police. I love all their music, but when I heard that "adult contemporary" mix of Don;t Stand So Close To Me it ripped my heart out.
then to have stuart copeland and andy say that it was all Sting;'s doing, by himself in the studio, then to hear them say that he, sting, was the one that decided to split off from the police, not a mutual decision...

oh man.

They have a remix album out which is official too, but it wasn't the band who remixed it. This sounds like something that would be on that. But I have't heard any of it, and I don't care to. What I do know is that their first two albums have been good.

atari 2600 10.24.2007 06:24 PM

forgive my cantankerousness

well, it woudn't have been possible w/o the group therapy
and, lacking any art projects, i should do another vol and maybe another too with selections from the rereleases this year
feel like i need to redo the first one a bit
wonder if i'll do any of it

wish i would've stream-recorded the kexp today, need to do that with the dylan tune, maybe someone else will in the meantime

somethin tells me most of these are contenders for worst single of the year too
