does anyone know where i could watch or download it? I don't have access to nationla geographic chanel...

I think we all know Kim used to be quite fond of the Horse... her face sorta shows the effects of that, unfortunately...

viewtiful_alan 03.26.2008 02:59 PM

? The Horse?

uhler 03.26.2008 03:10 PM

what's the horse?

yeah it does seems weird that thurston would narrate this program. henry rollins would've been the best choice since i highly doubt ian would've done it and rollins likes to do stuff like this.

Lee talks about cocaine use in JRNLS80S, but I don't think it was a big thing at all for him.

viewtiful_alan 03.26.2008 03:49 PM

Did Kim really use heroin...?
That just doesn't add up to me.

IMHO drugs and alchohol can somewhat devalue intelligence. I have far more respect for you if you can make resounding statements and art without having to fuck up your brain to do so.

I don't know her personally, so I don't know, but I really don't think she did. I remember interviews in the '80s when she railed about how pissed off she was at a writer who insinuated she was a junky because, as she put it, "I'm a girl and I'm skinny". I can totally see that happening, given the culture she ran in, and the stereotypes people like to create.

Her face looks to me like a woman her age who hasn't succumbed to plastic surgery and on top of being a mom who has led a massively active career as a writer, artist, fashion designer, and constantly touring rock musician. Seriously, if she'd done heroin, she'd have fucked up somewhere along the line, and I just don't see that at all.

atsonicpark 03.26.2008 04:55 PM

I'm crooked edge.

he did, but he's anti drug and i doubt he has used it since flag. i think i read in an interview he has tried weed once, acid at times and never alcohol.

pantophobia 03.26.2008 05:01 PM

she said in an interview some years back she never used it, maybe for Venus mag i don't recall offhand

it is interesting you bring up the line skinny cause i read a blogger a year ago who thought she was either a junkie or anorexic back during the goo era

and photos like this don't help

amazingly as the interview stated, she is the only one in the photo to have never done heroin

deflinus 03.26.2008 06:20 PM

i dont see what the big deal is. i see him as neutral. he's not straight edge and he's not a junkie. im pretty sure the time line sonic youth's been active in, he's come across drugs, junkies, drug-related deaths and all of that shit.

but i mean seriously, straight edge is bullshit. blame people, not drugs. some people just dont have the will power to say no to drugs, and they end up falling down some piss downward spiral... eh, there's too much to say about the topic. im done

the program's going to be boring. but ill probably watch it anyway.

Which I believe. She's considerably smarter and less death obsessed than all of them.

max 03.26.2008 06:52 PM

straight edge? bullshit. tats? i don't get them. hardcore? not for me.
why does people need all this labels for?

Regarding the origins of Eric's Trip lyrics

Just want to clear up this point. As far as I understand it, Lee never originally conceived the lyrics to this song. They are quoted from Eric Emerson's LSD-fueled rant in Andy Warhol's Chelsea Girls. In an audio interview that was out around the time SY were promoting Daydream Deluxe, he mentioned sitting in the cinema, watching the film, when the Emerson scene appeared and how he grabbed a paper and pen out of his pocket and just began scribbling the words down as fast as he could.

Not that this presents a rebuttal to the evidence suggesting Lee's drug use. I just had an urge to readdress the origins of Eric's Trip's lyrical conception as briefly laid out by Dead Air. And it's a pretty cool story worth, in my opinion, the telling.

Thurston Moore has been secretly straight edge since its heyday. In the 80's he had a side project called xstinkycleanx under the alias Thursty No Moore. They were marginally noteworthy in the scene.

WHAT YOU DIDN'T KNOW?

bahahhahaha!

Thursty No Moore....

My rebuttle is the Thurston Moore tape coming out...(whatever its called... the title is like Free/Love, but its not that tape) .. The back of the art has a rant about wine and maurijauna so its safe to say he's a stoner.

Cantankerous 03.29.2008 02:33 PM

ahahaha kim doing heroin.
MY ASS.

it's not hard to tell if someone is on heroin if you know what to look for. whoever said kim was doing smack clearly doesn't.
