In my opinion Tonight's the night is better than On the beach (even if the latter is already really great) and Radio Ethiopia is better than Horses. To each his own :)

Yes, and Tim Buckley (Happy Sad / Lorca / Blue afternoon / Starsailor), Tindersticks (the first three albums), The Notwist (12 / Shrink / Neon golden), Scott Walker (Scott 3 / Scott 4), Talk Talk (Spirit of Eden / Laughing stock), The Cure (Seventeen second / Faith / Pornography) - I know batreleaser will never agree with the last one though :D

I like Joy Division.

Love Will Tear Us Apart is a tragically overrated song.

I like their fast stuff the best, like Glass, Digital, Ice Age, Transmission, etc.

SpectralJulianIsNotDead 05.09.2008 12:49 AM

I think it was AtSonicPark who said it best about Interpol.

All of their songs are ripoffs of the song Shadowplay.

atsonicpark 05.09.2008 04:30 AM

Thanks, didn't know people actually listened to me.

I think this is more true now after the movie came out.

dazedcola 05.10.2008 09:31 PM

I find it odd that alot of people worship they're distinctive sound on Unknown Pleasures even though the band expressed dismay with the eventual mixing of it.

dionysusundone 05.10.2008 11:00 PM

I believe they changed their mind later on, they were mainly disappointed that it didn't capture their live sound.

Well, their music has a strong visual aspect (in the lyrics or atmospheres) and the band played a lot with its image too, so I think it's difficult to distinguish image and music with them. But anyway I disagree I think their music is ace.

demonrail666 05.11.2008 09:36 AM

i'd never say they were bad, or anything silly like that, but they're one of those 'classic' bands that never interestred me much. I always preferred New Order. There's something all to precious about the whole JD thing, and Unknown Pleasures, for all its great songs, is horribly over produced.

Alex's Trip 08.25.2008 09:00 PM

My favorite band this day/hour/minute/second

atari 2600 08.25.2008 09:10 PM

A friend has borrowed all of my Joy Division and New Order, including all my bootlegs.

deflinus 08.25.2008 09:15 PM

i just started watching Control today. its pretty good so far i guess. but i got bored and paused it. maybe ill finish it tonight

atsonicpark 08.25.2008 09:17 PM

I might watch it online. As much as I like Joy Division, I don't really have any interest in watching a biography of them.

All my favorite Joy Division songs were never on a full length album I guess... all the ones between UNKNOWN PLEASURES and CONTROL on the HEART AND SOUL box set... stuff like "ice age".. fuck!!

dionysusundone 08.25.2008 09:42 PM

Control's OK. A bit too long, drags a bit in places, but it gave me a real emotional thrill when I watched in the theater.

RanaldoNecro 08.25.2008 10:41 PM

It seems Joy Division were more influential than popular...They seem to be a benchmark for many other bands..

Early New Order really captures what they were doing in JD..

I always resented New Order for their excessive re-packaging...
