I don't go to local shows because I live in butt fuck no where and it's hard to find rides to shows, and even harder to find rides home.
|
I'm usually out a couple of nights a week, and would happily double that but it seems the majority of my friends & associates would prefer to spend their weekday evenings watching mindnumbing soulsucking shite on TV or continually refreshing Facebook instead of experiencing interesting and new music and interacting with actual real people.
But anyway, I'm off out any minute to go watch my favourite local band launch their debut album with gig in one of the local indie cinemas - pretty fine way to kick off a Bank Holiday weekend... :) |

I was guilty of not seeing and suppoorting my local music scene for a while. Granted there are basically two scenes: your local shuffle of rock/pop/hip-hop bands and then your experimental/noise/improv/jazz scene. The latter of which I tend to subscribe to. Having a baby and all it was difficult to go out and see all the shows I wanted or want to. For instance within the last two months these bands have been here: Times New Viking,Psychedelic Horsheshit,Sunburned Hand, Warmer Milks, Tight Leather, Hair Police. I wanted to see all of these shows, but alas I do have greater responsibilities. But with all of that been said, the baby is growing into a little boy, soon He'll be two and so on. Last week my local college radio station had their 20th anniversary and to celebrate they hosted a free festival. The roster was: Mahjonng, Hair Police, Jolie Holland, Apples In Stereo, and The Coup. I went out and supported this function, had a great time, the kid had a great time, the wife met us after work and had a great time, and I managed to get good footage of Hair Police and The Coup. Perhaps the summer will bring more shows that the little onecan come to, like I said, I don't really go to the local music hall because they rarely have a band I wanna see (last one was Six Organs in Feb.), I go to the all ages underground spots that host the like of noise/improv/jazz/funcore.

Do you know a band called Baconhanger? I'm fairly sure that I've read somewhere that they're from Minneapolis. http://www.myspace.com/baconhanger |
I think they are from Indianapolis.
And I hadn't heard of them before, but a lot of their dates are in that area and they are playing something called the "Hoosier Holocaust," so I'm sticking to that theory. |
Ha! Sorry, at least now I know what a ''Hoosier'' is!
|
what's a hoosier?
|
People from Indiana.

I can't believe it, I found a decent local rock band !!! In france !!!
Take a look at their myspace, they have some good compositions. And they have good musical tastes : http://www.myspace.com/soaprock Please. |
I love the Sydney music scene I'm a part of. Heaps of good bands/artists and no big egos. I'd go to two shows most week, would like to make it 3 or 4 but have a bit too much study and work this year.
