i dont think theyre trying to do anything amazing, they just make pop punk cool again. thats why i like them, fast fuzzy pop songs with cool power chords. not to be taken very seriously at all, im sure anyone could put on weirdo rippers and dig it and hum along with it, just good ol melodies and power chords.

probably my favorite band right now. now mika miko needs to come out with a new record.
|
Punk with ambient interludes. Its nothing I'm going to piss my pants over but I do like it.
|
Heh. PISSED JEANS.
The sad thing is, I wasn't joking in the slightest about MTV2 doing a feature on this band as part of the "lo fi movement". There were some other bands interviewed but I had never heard of them. One had a cute chick in it. |
Pissed Jeans rule.
This new record of theirs has them sounding a whole lot like Japanther with a little less reliance on the ultra-pop sound that Japanther seems to do pretty well. |
Ha! Now I'm shocked! Adam Cooley watching MTV2?? That's just like if Sonic Youth were doing a best of for Starbucks. Sellout! :D

Oh, never heard of 'em, except Times New Viking. And like I said, syrfox, I was flippin through the channels and I saw two hipsters in pink shirts and sunglasses that said NO AGE LO-FI MOVEMENT and was like the fuck.

i heard them live opening for liars and bought a couple of their records. they were good, but i think people make too much of how good they are-- they aren't mind blowing. they are fun rocknroll with a good punk energy. but they aren't doing anyting new or revolutionary as far as i could tell. -- ps - after reading the thread, i realize that people made these same points here already. so just count this as another vote. |
Trasher, that always SICKENS me, when people compare anything to MBV. Not that MBV are my godhead or anything, but there are so many bands that get compared to them, it's ridiculous. "Oh, you have a bunch of guitar layers on your record and a decent hook in the chorus, you're just like MBV!" They're like the go-to band if you want to compare a band to them and automatically make that band seem interesting or different. No Age sounds NOTHING like MBV, not in the slightest.
Certainly, there are bands with definite similarities to MBV -- Fleeting Joys, Swirlies, etc -- but too many bands get compared to them that sound nothing like them. It's really silly. "Over-distorted guitars and a person who hits notes when they sing! JUST LIKE MBV!" Fuck that. |

Last time I bought the NME I've counted something like 10 Sonic Youth mentions on that issue alone. |
marcos, yeah, i checked today is the day out and its damn sweet! thanks for that!!!
|
i finally listened to it and i have to say i think it's pretty awesome, there's parts of them that remind me of white heaven.
and it's pretty impressive considering wives musical style. |
