I can tell you one thing. There is no country for old men.

I've only been to Egypt to see members of my family and this was a while back, but honestly, Cairo has to be one of the most incredible cities imaginable. Within a single street you pass from Tokyo style megalopolis to something out of the Raiders of the Lost Ark. I understand that the rise of Islamic fundamentalism in certain parts of Egypt has made travel for Westerners more difficult, but Cairo is very cosmopolitan and you'd be fine there. Even given that, the culture shock is truly enormous. I know people that thought Dehli was intense until going to Cairo. If you can handle that, you'd absolutely love the place. Just be careful of places beyond the big cities - or at least visit them with someone local that you can trust. |

I'd love to go to Russia, but my next holiday will probably be back to NYC. Still, all things considered, my favourite city.

It is. They don't even have good beer there. If you're into "pretty" it works. But "pretty" can get mighty boring when that's all there is. |

I envy you Japan big time. What was it like? I guess you heavily expanded your manga collection, didn't you? |

I've been to Tokyo twice. My Japanese friends say that I've visited Tokyo not Japan. I had a lot of fun. I drank a lot. Izakaya bars are your friends. Shochu was my drink of choice. I visited lots of temples, museums, and frequented bars and restaurants where all the menus were in Japanese and they made fun of me and I made fun of them - but it's okay because the drinks were cheaper, the people were more interesting and the food was real and not sterilized for mass consumption. Sometimes we'd wander down back alleys that were dimly lit and just find teeny bars with questionable looking guys smoking cigarettes in the corner. Tokyo's a fun place to explore. and I didn't buy any manga, but I did get drunk with manga artists. |
You guys are some well-travelled people!
I wish I could fly. I have an inner-ear disorder that causes violent vertigo and nausea when the air pressure starts to fuck with me (right after take off) Back in the day my ex-wife and I had to actually cancel our honeymoon to Puerto Rico because I barely made it through the 45 minute connecting flight from Houston to dallas. Luckily her parents lived outside of Dalas and rescued us. I have travelled all over the USA, seen and visited about 30 different states. From Puerto Rico and went back in 1991 I have travveled to mexico ( monterrye, and the D.F.) and Canada as a kid but I do not remember it. also, haiti and Dominican Republic as a kid, but do not remember it. |

you should try the A-Team style, but it's probably against all the security standards to be anestetized for an entire flight... |
I have thought about it, but the one problem lies in arrival, I would be useless at customs and getting my bag and finding my way to where ver I was staying once I got there all doped up.
Plus, it would take some heavy dope for me to stay unconscious on a 14 hour flight. |
Hey, Rob, next time you fly, just keep in mind how much more you'd suffer if there was no cabin pressure and you had no oxygen to breath.
|
next time I fly I will be unconscious!
|
just fill your ear up with cement, it will be ok then
