When Colbert had 'em on his show earlier this year, it was the first time they'd been on American TV in over 30 years.

I was at Pavement's last gig in London before they split up (like I've probably mentioned on this forum 3000 times already) and I still can't get my head around the fact that that night they really packed a punch as musicians much more than I think they did throughout their entire career.

I always thought that was Pavement's secret weapon. The whole stupid slacker oh-look-we-can-barely-play thing was a joke. They were (are) really really talented and TIGHT as a band. Even watching like the live shit on Slow Century -- it's like holy shit! They are ridiculously on point. And I mean sometimes you gotta pay attention to some of their really weird changes and shit. TERROR TWILIGHT is so shaton, but if you listen to like a lot of the weird stop-starting and (ahem) "jamming" on something like "You Are A Light" it's really a reminder that these muhfuggas could PLAY!

I'm not much of a bootleg geek when it comes to the majority of bands apart from VU, so if you can up me some stuff from that time which you think would make a point I'd be really grateful. :)

I actually avoid bootlegs these days, so the only Pav-live I have is um the Record Store Day ones really. But um.. do a youtube search for a live version of "You Are A Light" and see what happens?

YYZ is amazing. Rush were rad for a "mainstream prog" band. I mean, they're no Thinking Plague or anything, but who is?

RUSH sure did and do create a massive amount of sound for three dudes. Not my fave band, but I can dig what they do.
