Vinyl wins handsdown when it comes to aesthetics.

frankly, i prefer vinyl to cd because its indier.

i said it. you all were thinking it.

Top of head, that comes from a decade of working in pro audio and mixing upward of 300 shows a year. I have mixed shows at many arts festivals, music festivals etc and there is always someone that knows alot more than you do that will help you extend your own knowledge. There are also lots of people who aren't willing to share their knowledge which I think sucks balls and holds people back. I however, like to share mine, knowledge should be free, but the knowledge put into practical application should be paid for. I also work as a sound system designer and composer in professional theatre, I am lucky that i get to do several jobs I love and have a lifestyle of hedonism. I am well remunerated for what I do and I occassionally lecture directing students and drama theory students at one of the universitys in my home town. Lecturing does pay well, I get $75 ph for doing that.

This is the next show I am compsoing and system designing:

This is the next festival I am doing, it is the 10th one of this particular festival I have done:

I would have thought rapists, war mongers, murderers more tedious, but, that is just me.

I think the future will hold no medium at all, only download of uncompressed audio files (wav) or lightly compressed files (flac).

People think vinyl sounds "better" or "warmer" because of the surface noise created by the needle meeting the record. When the CD came out in the 80's vinyl might have contained better quality audio but not anymore. In fact you can master CD's with more low end than vinyl because overloading low end on vinyl makes the needle skip.

The debate is almost over at this point. Digital is the future.

Rob Instigator 05.28.2009 09:47 PM

in an entertainment sense it will always win though

Sonic Youth 37 05.28.2009 09:50 PM

Because it feels nice against my skin.

This Is Not Here 05.28.2009 10:52 PM

Because if we didn't have vinyl, we wouldn't have shit student art.

Vinyl sounds SO good it's like John Lennon is alive again, and he's about to somehow emmerge out of the sleeve into your living room.
