Pantera's "Suicide Note Pt. II" has a pause where you think the song's over, then Dime does one of those harmonic squeals and it comes back. Also, the last song on that album, Sandblasted Skin (Reprise), fades out and comes back slightly louder about 2 or 3 minutes later. Although that might be a better example of giving into the "hidden track" fad of the 90s...
I prefer moments were all the instruments except for one drop out, but it's not really a "solo" (I can't think of any examples right now). Outright pauses in songs kinda kill the momentum if you ask me. |

There are some Godspeed You Black Emperor tracks that have some stops in them. Providence is the one that comes to mind.
