With his drum kit?

Count Mecha 09.11.2009 01:48 AM

Well about his drum kit at times. Like somewhere he talks about deliberately making himself uncomfortable when playing as to force invention to solution. He uses some bike seat analogy.

And there's some other one where he talks about how he likes to fill in beats with all this bizzaro stuff that surrounds it. Like extra rimshots or whatever. So the core beat is still active, but the space around it is still fresh and slightly unpredictable.

I dunno, maybe it's only interesting to someone who plays drums.

atsonicpark 09.11.2009 02:27 AM

Haha. Well, in all honesty, he's probably my favorite drummer (and definitely the most interesting) I've heard since John French was in Captain Beefheart's Magic Band, so yeah. And I can't drum at all (but they are my favorite instrument).

There's a bit in the Billy Bragg biography 'suitable for miners' where the chappy is going on about people who are good at the art of the interview. I can't remember the last time one such person was churned out, but it seems that in the 80s there were loads of them (MES, McGowan, Bragg, Galas, Bargeld, Reid brothers etc). The last band I can think of that were consistently good interviewees (regardless of what I think of their music, which is very little) were the Manics, and they got very tired around the time they started dicking about in Cuba. The only person I can think of is Kapranos from Franz Ferdinand, but that's largely because he's irritating. Unfortunately, even good ol' cuntnose Bono makes a better interview than the grey hordes.

If it wasn't for music and Bob dole, I wouldn't be on this here message board arguing with a bunch of pricks the likes of yous!

It's totally overrated!

Ice-T & Chuck D are two of my favorite interviewees from that era

Chuck D always gave brilliant interviews. Ice T was invariably entertaining but had a tendency to stay in character a bit too much.

I completely agree. Most times I just what to tell people that what they're saying has been said enough times already.

You're a retard and you've just pointed out the biggest problem with Sonic Youth, especially since their "abstract visualizations" aren't even really any more than rocktastic catchphrasing most of the time.
