Dennis Hopper was also cast in the other James Dean movie Giant. Dennis Hopper always swore James Dean wasn't gay. I believe him.

RIP and all that, but I did get pretty tired of watching him dialing in his stock act for some of his later films. His single style of acting might've made him a decent living in Hollywood as their goto psycho but it also saw him become a bit of a cliche fairly quickly. IMHO.

RIP. For me his best acting job was Shooter in Hooisers....

While I agree, he began to "just play himself" and was quite predictable.... but being a cliche' of yourself is a lot less distasteful than having no character. Although a lot of his characters were just riddled with his personality and mannerisms to the core, he was still one of the most unique and true personalities in Hollywood.

Some of my favorite roles:

You know what Bruce Smith does in these shoes? bad things man...Bad things...

!@#$%! 06.01.2010 02:55 PM

ah, he was a fucking republican, but his acting work was alright. i give him most credit for his hippie opus, "easy rider", which had significant cultural impact. the parts he played in blue velvet etc were good and/or entertaining but not nearly as influential.

YES!!! has it been that long? .....remember those commercials perfectly.....but don't remember it being so long ago that Bruce Smith was still eating up QB's. RIP Bruce!

This man will always be a hero/legend to me. For 3 reasons.

Easy Rider
Blue Velvet
& Super Mario Bros.

It all started with bruce Smith when he got those 4 sacks in a playoff game! It drove the "ref" nuts! That was my fave commercial ever.
