The Pistols went out in a blaze of glory after only one album... and thank god for that... they were never meant to last for very long... And it is true that Lydon went on to better things with the first three Pil albums.

The Clash were just plain pedestrian and dull in comparison to the Pistols at their best.

The Pistols, because I enjoy them more.

The Clash s/t is a real good album, but I am not too fond of London Calling or Combat Rock (those are the only other 2 I've heard)

I'm the other way around. I think their first album could've been great, but the recording is very poor. I can't even listen to the album version of Garageland, which I think is an excellent song when they did it live, but on the album it just sounds half-assed. On London Calling, they actually had their shit together.

Agreed. I also enjoy the Buzzcocks much more than the Clash and sex pistols too.

Cantankerous 07.23.2006 10:03 PM

Sex Pistols, no contest.

no way, sex pistols were to punk was nirvana was to grunge... not bad stuff, but they each managed to completely sell out their respective genres

Clash were just fucking boring.

kingcoffee 07.23.2006 10:19 PM

Both bands have had a major impact on punk rock. Both bands are good, too. But all in all, I have to say the Clash are the better band simply because they were more musically adventurous and interesting. The Sex Pistols raised the idea of social revolution in the UK punk scene but it was the Clash that moved people to do something about it. Plus, The Clash weren't as big of assholes as the Sex Pistols.

I don't think Nirvana (at least Kurt Cobain) sold out punk rock. The record companies sold out for him. That's one of the resons Kurt killed himself. If anyone sold out, it was Dave Grohl.

John Violence 07.23.2006 10:50 PM

I am gonna go with The Clash.
