Wow, I was the last poster in this thread from 4 years ago until someone dragged it out of the mud...
I guess everyone agreed with me. |
If ya want to get technical about it, whoever first picked up a guitar and expressed themselves w/ it in such a way that wasn't aimed at pleasing an audience.
I think that can be used to describe countless blues musicians and many a peeps that came after. W/ that said, the Stooges will always be the first real "punk band" as far as I'm concerned. That first Stooges record came out the same week as Woodstock. Shit really says something. "Punk", as a movement, def. seemed to have taken shape right after the Stooges broke up. |

For me, "Strychnine" by the Sonics. Can't think of anything that punk before, or any more after.

surely gene vincent or something fron the very early days of the electric guitar rawwk thing.. yknow the kind of shit that scared the parents of your parents! the kind of shit that caused kids to scream and yell and cause riots... surely thats punk! so bill hailey and gene vincent and numerous others....... punk doesnt need harsh distortion, punk doesnt need a spikey haircut, punk doesnt need a fuzztone bassline, punk needs an attitude and the youth cultre willing to rebel against their peers... thats punk!
