savage clone, did you check out urusa in japan?
if you only listened to kore ga mayaku da, you might get a nice suprise listening to urusa. if you already did, never mind. and according to the girls themselves, afrirampo means naked in osaka ben. despite the fact that no japanese person ive ever met from osaka or elsewhere has heard of this word. |
Haven't heard that one.
I am willing to give them another shot, but I was severely disappointed with the other stuff I was exposed to. |

I'm going to have to agree with this sentiment. I saw them once with the expectation of hearing 'the next boredoms' or some such nonsense and ended up bored half to death. I don't see the appeal whatsoever. |

when did you see them? |
april 2006. bad timing?
|
haha. actualy...yes. bad timing.
ive seen em loads of times since about 2004 and they went thru a bit of a crap patch just around the 1st haf of this year (in my opinion) most of the kore ga mayaku da album sounds improvised, and they were trying to recreate those songs on stage and it didnt have the same spark that made me like em in the first place. theyre rocking again now though. some new songs and a bit more fire than they had the start of the year. |
Interesting. I should probably give their recorded stuff a try before I pooh pooh them all together.
|
there is a vidclip on the sy archives of afrirampo and sy live in osaka, i think. its great. shot on hand held camera by lee. worth watching.....
|
![]() that's me on the left at afrirampo's showcase at SXSW 2006...right after pikacyu spit beer all over us crowdfolk. they put on one of the best shows i've ever seen and the expression on my face says it all. i luv them broads. |

i *think* that handsome bearded fellow standing behind you is yours truly. wax-- i retract my previous statement. its not exactly my cup of tea, but i enjoyed urusa in japan. |

you didn't enjoy their set that night? |
I really like 'em. First saw them live supporting SY in 2004 (I think... GOD that was a long time ago), and was intrigued. Since then I've collected a few of their albums, I've got A and Urusa in Japan, Kora Da Mayaku Ga and Baka ka Gita. Urusa is probably my favourite, but I haven't given Kore much of a listen yet as I only got it a few days ago.
Great band! Like the Boredoms they have a really good blend of noise and silliness! |
new album maybe?
they have a new song up on their myspace. very good song. |
Just listened to A which I found average if not plain boring.
|
Yeah, Cryptograms is one of 2007's best albums so far.

I'll agree to this, and second SC. A is the only thing of theirs I own. I tried to give it multiple listens, and frankly found it boring and unimpressive. Perhaps my expectations were too high. But they're hot, I'll give them that. |
they're good. gets boring but yeah.
|
I've known them since I read an article about Cryptograms in "NYCGF-is-the-worst-album-ever" Pitchfork.
Not listened to their other stuff yet. I don't know if they've toured Europe yet but if they come in Paris I will try to see them. ('just had an look on their myspace, nothing scheduled in Europe for the moment). |
