Cantankerous 12.02.2006 12:29 AM

god DAMN.

sonicl 12.02.2006 12:59 AM

This will probably end up being bought by the sort of person who buys an Old Master (as in painting, not a master tape) and locks it in a bank vault. I'd be surprised if its contents became publicly available.

Inhuman 12.02.2006 01:16 AM

Up to $25,300 now. Damn

I never understood why people do that. "Ooohh I've such a such a vinyl, it's so rare"...who gives a shit! You gonna play it or not?

RdTv 12.02.2006 06:13 AM

$35,300

Whoever ends up buying this has some serious money. Actually it isn't so much the money its the fact that they have THAT MUCH money just to spend on an album, albeit a great one and the subject of many a collector's wet dream.

Iain 12.02.2006 07:05 AM

Surely whoever buys it is planning to make money on releasing it. Would they have the rights to do that owning the original acetate?

Gulasch Noir 12.02.2006 08:43 AM

There's nobody who wants to tell me in a few words what an "acetate" is ....right?

atari 2600 12.02.2006 09:35 AM

thevelvetforum>...teehee
I just went over there to see if my log-in id still worked (if I could even remember it...I did)
&
I have a PM there from Jazz Like Hendrix from (what happens to be my birthday)
Mon Sep 13, 2004 5:53 am. I have problems with not checking electronic mail. I really do.
at the risk of upsetting anyone...

As always, click to read more clearly.

I had to post this when I read the part about the "yearbook" posts.

haha

atari 2600 12.02.2006 09:44 AM

Let's see. You mentioned thevelvetforum. I remembered that I used to be or perhaps possibly still was registered over there as a member of the forum. I then went to thevelvetforum. As I tried the log-in it worked and took me to the Private Message page. I viewed the above message that I just posted to this board. After reading the aforementioned message, I felt impelled to post it because it is JazzLikeHendrix expressing his shared disdain for "yearbook" posts...and it's from 2004.

atari 2600 12.02.2006 09:53 AM

Any other beefs?
(besides your worry that someone other than yourself might get some attention)

Let me get straight back to the topic.
I can tell everyone that the performance quality of the versions from Scepter Studios are not as good as the final released album versions, because as I stated before, I have three of the tracks.
The three that I do have are the alternate version outtakes. The rest of the thing, except for European Son, is the same (with different mixes supposedly) as the released debut.

Is that on-topic enough for you, Mr. Feigning Concern Pain-in-the-Ass?

atari 2600 12.02.2006 10:03 AM

Great. I wasn't planning on sharing them.

I am, however, planning on sharing a Moe Tucker with Half Japanese one at the group and by PM.

Gulasch Noir 12.02.2006 11:27 AM

ok, inquisitiveness satisfied http://www.answers.com/acetate%20disc
By the way, i have this album four times: yellow vinyl, black vinyl (both 2003 reissues), CD and burned CD.

gmku 12.02.2006 11:51 AM

I wonder what the copyright/intellectual property law on this is? That is, could a fan or a record co. president just purchase this and then clean it up and release it in some form? Or would it be a case of securing permission from Lou Reed et al or the record label?

Ha, that sounds very familiar! In my case--five times: cheesy German import (purchased when I lived in Germany in the 80s), late 80s reissue on CD, and three recent vinyl reissues on regular black vinyl, yellow vinyl, and a 180gm mono pressing.

Oh, Reed's old and feeble. He's got nothing on a young tough dude such as yourself.

Wow, a gift to all the gmkus, eh. I thought I was the only one. I am a unique individual and Jesus wants me for a sunbeam.

I think I hate whoever buys this. There's record collecting, and then there's just being too rich. Rich people should buy cars, not records. It pushes all us lowly, poor schmucks out of the market if rich people get involved. I would imagine the buyer will be affiliated to a record label in some fashion.

jon boy 12.02.2006 01:12 PM

or just collect that type of stuff to show off to all his friends. i hate people like that.

I agree absolutely.

Don't blame the buyer so much as the seller, though. The seller is being greedy and not thinking about the common good of sharing this find with as many fans as possible.

It would be one thing for the seller to negotiate with a record company with the stipulation that the sale is for eventual release of the material to the public (issued on CD, LP, etc., for sale as an affordable mass release). But this is just greed.

Yeah, I don't either, except that it can be pretty mindless and kind of mean-spirited.
