I can't find it either, if you cant find it in Sydney. Then i am sure as hell fucked living in townsville. |
But they have a big casino in Townsville! You could try to win a lot money there and then fly to New York to pick it up.
|
I don't think I like it. I mean I'm having a lot of hard time getting into it.
I mean I like kim's chords alright, and fire engine dream starts out like God but then it gets boring. A lot of the album is, yeah, meandering. I don't feel like it's heading anywhere fancy. Am I wrong to feel this way? If I keep listening to it will it one day hit me mysteriously powerful that this album is the greatest thing since yada yada? Cuz a lot of sonic youth albums do that to me. Sister especially. I didn't like that album at all until one day I loved it. In other news I just got their self titled and I love it lots thanks. |

Really? I find Fire Engine Dream is a perfect length. You brought up a good point about SY though. At first I didn't like Daydream Nation even, and I didn't like anything after the 4 minute mark of Diamond Sea, but now I love them both and they're some of my favorites. It depends on the setting where I listen to long songs. There's no way I'd listen to Absolutego, Black One, SYR, etc... when walking down a hall, but if I'm on a long inter-city bus ride that takes 3 hours, they're perfect. |

New CD reviews Jan. 14, 2007 12:00 AM 'The Destroyed Room' **** Sonic Youth (Geffen) Sonic Youth may not be the best band to emerge from the college-rock airwaves of the '80s, but the experimental New York four-piece is certainly the most interesting, as The Destroyed Room proves. An 11-track trawl through the band's B-sides and unreleased jams from the past 13 years, the disc beautifully captures the droning dissonance of the no-wave pioneers. The Destroyed Room is dominated by long instrumental jams, from the 10-minute opening Fire Engine Dream through The Diamond Sea, a 25-minute epic dating from 1995. It includes several shorter tracks, like the 1994 B-side Razor Blade, the jittery Campfire and the moody, intense Beautiful Plateau, a lovely track featuring singer and bassist Kim Gordon. Outtakes and rarities collections are a hit-or-miss proposition. Often they show why the band didn't bother to release the songs. But like Tom Waits' Orphans, another amazing rarities collection that hit stores in '06, The Destroyed Room shows the fount of creativity that fuels Sonic Youth's "regular" releases. - Michael Senft |
