This post is going to go on a while...
Going back a bit Same-ish era Perfection More perfect Double More perfect [deep breath] Never (that's NEVER) wrote a duff song , Not a song, but everyone knows it I don't like people who don't like this song. I'll skip a few decades for posterity. Gay music needn't be shite. OH MY FUCKING LIFE THIS IS 13 YEARS OLD NOW, Still love it, Back a bit from that one Same vein Where did it all go wrong? We'll swing onto the modern era, methinks. Controversially, my favourite song of hers; FUCKING phenomenal song ;Britain's current best world-beating pop groupI should really hate this, but I don't Love love love love love My actual favourite single ever I've forgotten at least four times as many songs as I've remembered. Obviously, no-one's going to watch all of these, but I had fun making this post. As of about 2 or 3 years now I far prefer proper pop to anything with guitars in. Edit: Apologies for the lack of clarity of the links. I know you're not going to click all of them, but you really should. Edit 2: I'll post some indie pop for you shylocks in a bit if I can be bothered. |

It's okay. I like Rosanna too. It's about how dude had it bad for hottie Ms. Arquette. I can feel that pain. Toto, after winning their Grammys for the Toto IV album, of course, collaborated with Lynch, Daniel Lanois, and Brian Eno for the Dune soundtrack too; add another checkmark by their name in the Rock Pantheon for that one. Pop song...hmmm... Raspberry Beret is pretty much a perfect pop song. On that note, His Royal Badness confused the press and onlookers this week down in Miami on Radio Row for Super Bowl LXI. He briefly explained that contrary to what had been told to the press, that he was going to give a press conference. Mr. Nelson asked if there were any questions, but before one could be asked, he spun around and the band launched into a brief-but-scintillating two-song set. |
are you ready to pop

Absolute shit. I cannot possibly comprehend how come it's cool to like this trash! |
My favourite "pop" (like...radio-pop?) song is probably something by the B-52's. Fucking great band, regardless of the Flintstones. haha.

Always loved this song

You could always have saved the bothed of posting this by using the words, "I, k-krack, am clearly a retard". Little bit of advice there. Fuckwit. |
glice, you only like that music because it's cool
|
Two of my favorite pop songs:

I can't believe Glice would pick Dancing Queen over S.O.S.
|
What's cool about liking Erasure? They are an ace pop band and that Girls Aloud tune is lush.
|
I love that one too:

I used to make a decent living djing '80s pop (decent meaning the money was decent, come to think of it the living most certainly wasn't), but for me the love of pop goes back further.
I can't pick between "Rainy Days and Mondays" and "I Won't Last a Day Without You". For a non-Carpenters song, there's "Sky High" by Jigsaw. |

I sang Lovesick Blues in a karaoke bar in Nashville one time. |

Well, it's very popular with my friendship group, who are all 10-year-olds with lisps and ponies. In other news, why does everyone keep posting guitar-y pop in this thread rather than proper, non-guitar pop? Blast from yonder past. Same as. Britain's best band outside of The Fall/ the mighty Ashtray More pasts, more blasts. Awesome . IF YOU DON'T LIKE THIS YOU ARE DEAD INSIDE |

That's the first thing I've read on this, or any other, forum that has genuinely made me quite jealous. I dream of Nashville pilgramages. On another subject, on DOA by Throbbing Gristle, I have taken the liberty of going to the places where most of the photos were taken. I am such a winner. |
maaahay sharoona! mhay mhay mahy!!!!! woo!
|
ha, alisha's attic.
two little boys always used to make me want to cry when i was a child because it made me think about what would happen if i was in the position of the boy who helps his dying brother. so i can't really listen to it even now. fuck you glice, i'm welling up. |
Had I bought the YMO vinyls when I had a chance, I could now list them here.
Fuck, I'm putting on some tubeway army / gary numan. |

If it's any consolation, it has exactly the same effect on me, except I laugh at the ridiculousness of crying to a Rolf Harris song. He's one of two musicians to make me weep in public, the other being Laura Cantrell. I completely forgot this masterpiece earlier . Not proper pop, but always sung by certain quarters I hated this at the time, but it's grown on me Getting silly now, WHISTLE POSSE!!!!!!! |

Kate Bush's "Wuthering Heights"...

The greatest pop writers were the beatles, the beach boys, and michael jackson. There are plenty of great pop songs by other artists. I love pop, and I'm not afraid to say it. It just gets a bad wrap because there's alot of douchebags who make shitty pop and not enough serious artists who tackle the genre anymore. I would go as far as to say the Pixies wrote alot of solid pop songs. But they also rocked hard. Syd Barrett Pink Floyd had a few, quirky, but kickass pop songs in the vein of the pixies (using it as an example, even though they came before the pixies) like See Emily Play for example.
so yea, See Emily Play is my pop song of the moment. |
i have no idea what pop means
nirvana - about a girl that'll do |
about a girl is exactly what pop means.
|
Beach Boys - - God Only Knows
Talking Heads - - This Must Be The Place (Naive Melody) best pop songs evr |
Agreed. But I will not agree that the beach boys were a shitty band. Take out Mike Love who contributed nothing musically, and they were actually a solid 50s rock n roll band. Stupid lyrics in the early days, but try to sing their parts and play instruments at the same time and you'd be simplifying it too, brotha.
:-) If you count their voices as instruments which you should, they are up there with any great band in my opinion, including zepplin. EDIT: WHOOPS IM HIGH! Thought this was the good songs by crap bands thread. God Damnit. |

Beatles - She's leaving home.

I think Wild Is The Wind goes "Love me, love me, love me, love me, say you do. Let me fly away with you" The Bowie version does anyway. Great song. |
