Pavement are hugely influential on my own failed ventures into songwriting. Espeically Slanted & Enchanted. Wowee Zowee and Crooked Rain are pretty impressive albums too.

It was the first song i heard by them, they played it on the radio years ago somehow and i taped it and loved it, and when i finally got wowee zowee several years later it was a completely different version, and i had no idea where the one i knew was. Turns out its on the 2nd cd of the crooked rain reissue, its a bit faster and theres less distortion, i prefer it probably due to sentimental reasons.

noisemachine 03.22.2006 05:16 PM

Crooked Rain is one of my all time favorite albums...the others follow closely...

SonikJesus 03.22.2006 10:42 PM

I only have S&E Deluxe and CR,CR deluxe. I like CR,CR the best. I can't pick a favorite song but some of my favorites are Here, Silence Kit, Unfair, Range Life, Summer Baby, and Fillmore Jive.

guitarpro 03.24.2006 02:41 AM

I love Pavement

Alex's Trip 03.24.2006 09:26 AM

Favorite is really hard. I have SE CRCR and WZ. I can't decide...I'll just say CRCR for now...

Dan 03.24.2006 10:25 AM

I'd rather listen to Wowee Zowee, Brighten the Corners, or Terror Twilight than the first two albums any day. But mostly Brighten the Corners.

HaydenAsche 03.24.2006 10:27 AM

I just listened to Crooked Rain Crooked Rain and I can say that I am impressed.

That's the spirit:D

luckynumber9 03.24.2006 05:37 PM

Yeah that's the first full pavement album I heard too. I think it's a good place to start. Besides that, Summer Babe, In the Mouth a Desert, all of Watery Domestic, We Dance, and Grounded (both versions) are all amazing tracks.

RIPfrey05 03.24.2006 09:53 PM

Only heard Slanted and Enchanted.
Sounds alot like Sonic Youth, almost to much so..

IntoTheGroovey 03.25.2006 12:27 AM

I don't really think it sounds a lot like Sonic Youth.

Inhuman 03.25.2006 12:42 AM

Hmm, I wouldn't say they're similar at all Nomatic. I think they have completley different styles, yet they interacted as bands a lot which was pretty neat!

SonikJesus 03.26.2006 06:49 PM

I just got cr,cr deluxe and haven't listened to it all but I just listened to grounded and it is so awesome. This is an alternate version? Where is the other version?

Pavement are inspiring.

Blandkind 07.19.2006 03:31 AM

I love pavement. I like all their albums but if I had to pick one it would be wowee zowee. Favourite song is Gold soundz

Rob Instigator 07.19.2006 09:10 AM

Whats your favorite Album and Song? My favorite album by Pavement is Slanted & Enchanted, the original, on cassette, on my tape deck in my old geo metro, blasting forth through my speakers and bleeding ito my skull a new conscioiusness and new laissez faire attitude about polish, about rock, abnout obtuseness. I fucking love pavement. slanted & enchanted! second comes WESTING BY MUSKET AND SEXTANT!

Have you ever seen em live? I did! I saw them open for Sonic Youth on the Dirty Tour and it was amazing and they still had their old drunk ass drummer steve young(?) and it was an awesome show all shambles and rock and music an dit was beautiful and people tried to slam dance to the pavement but it is too beautiful to slam dance to, and I have never ever gotten over the departure of steve because he added a shambolic beauty to their show and feel and it was never quite the same after that. they went from an anarchic colective to a full-fledged indie rock band. and they lost something. that something made them very special.

Which do you prefer now Stephen Malkmus and the Jicks/Preston School of Industry? neither. they both suck ASS. they are fucking terrible. they make me want to gaga and throw on westing by musket and sextant to get that taste of rotten seeping SHIT out of my ears and mouth. goddamn they suckl. they are a fucking waste of time and breath and life. what fucking horrid bands. BORING. it is like veery singl thin that could have sucked about pavement and did not in pavement, sucks and sucks royally in their solo shit. FUCK they suck.

Do you or would you like to see them re-form? NO. leave me with my dreams and memories of SM, Spiral Stairs and a 4 track recorder in steve's garage studio.

atari 2600 07.19.2006 09:13 AM

Westing is a compilation put out by Drag City.

I think everyone pretty much knows this, jus' sayin'.

Yeah, Norma they are inspiring. Back in '89 when I was first making music & none of my friends liked Sonic Youth & thought I was out of my mind...if only we would have made music & I would have been allowed to be the arbiter of the sound & concept, well, then I/we could have been a Pavement (or at least a Nirvana)...no prob.

Pax Americana 07.19.2006 10:39 AM

Pavement are great. I think Slanted and Enchanted is my favorite cause it's the album that got me into them. I have been listening to Brighten the Corners a lot lately though.

gmku 07.19.2006 10:43 AM

While I really like Slanted and Crooked Rain, I don't love them the way I do other 90s stuff. So I never became an obsessed fan. But I do respect Pavement a lot. I really enjoy my vinyl copy of Crooked Rain.

Cantankerous 07.19.2006 10:44 AM

good god i hate pavement/

gmku 07.19.2006 10:44 AM

Why?

Rob Instigator 07.19.2006 11:57 AM

pavement reminds saturcantank9erous of the many days her and I spetn stoned out of our gourds, driving in her father's car, which she snuck out of her house in, and the sonic bliss that folowed.

she cannot stand the memories of our tainted love.

Cantankerous 07.19.2006 12:03 PM

Aahaooohhhaaaaooow
Tainted Loooove

Oh, I thought it was cuz of the Pavement mix tape I gave her that night we lit out across the country heading for the Badlands in my stolen car.

nomadicfollower 07.19.2006 12:13 PM

Listening to Slanted and Enchanted as I type. Good. Really good.
'I've got heavy coat it's filled with rocks and sand and if I lose it I'll be coming back today'.

Rob Instigator 07.19.2006 12:43 PM

the single greatest most amazing beautiful ridiculously joy filled lovely pavement song, and the one I dedicate to cantankerous, is PARFUM V

fun for an hour til the hour's gone
can one trick nights feed 40 days?
in my bed at the break of dawn
she shivered like a vein slashed bright and new

she's got the radio active and it makes me feel ok (i don't feel ok) [x2]

grip-force the vials and strip the locks
smash the set & slash the beds
and when it looks life a wife's ex-plot
we'll cover all the rugs with cheap perfume

she's got the radio active and it makes me feel ok (i don't feel ok) [repeat]
like a docent's lisp, like a damsel's spit, like a dry gin's twist (of lime)
like a poor droll sir, like a pike's dull spurs, like a pastor's flock (of sheep)

Danny Himself 07.19.2006 01:50 PM

Crooked Rain, Crooked Rain. I love how moody and depraved Newark Wilder is.

krastian 07.19.2006 03:04 PM

Exactly.

scott v 07.19.2006 03:07 PM

Malkmus ain't no Michael McDonald.

He should cover the Doobie's hit, "What A Fool Believes".

iminsane 07.29.2007 03:45 AM

favorite songs:

s&e: zurich is stained
crooked: gold soundz
wowee: grave architecture
btc: date w/ ikea
terror: ...and carrot rope

id like to mention that i love every pavement song ive heard and my favorites are really just spur-of-the-moments. Any others can be replaced quite easily.

ZEROpumpkins 07.29.2007 04:05 AM

Pavement fucking rock. My second favourite band. Wowee Zowee is the best Pavement album.

atsonicpark 07.29.2007 08:17 AM

the ikara cult 07.29.2007 08:57 AM

Im starting to feel like Pavement is a party i wasnt invited to but ive been hanging around it for a while, so im embarressed at my presence somewhat. if that makes any sense
