I used to like Ida a lot for a certain period of time:

they used to be this Low-like slowcore folkish band with beautiful female vocals. No one seems to like them here, altough I love many of their albums.

Shipper 03.21.2007 05:19 AM

No-one mentioned Giant Drag yet?

_slavo_ 03.21.2007 05:20 AM

nope

nicfit 03.21.2007 05:23 AM

jesus this thing is seriously getting huge...and I'm not speaking of something sexual related to that hope pic...Ok, so I'll take the time to gather all the suggestion and divide the ones I already know and the ones I need/want to check and see what comes out....I'll need a bit of time..
edit: Everyneurotic mentioned giant drag, and also the fact that I already know/love them, just check that "sonic youth" thread ;)

beth gibbons, p.j. harvey, martina topley bird, cat power, sara lov, that girl from elysian fields, that girl from the knife, diamanda galas, carla bozulich, fiona apple, nico, elton john etc.etc. . I'm not searching for any particual style and nothing particularly obscure, just good music.

Man in Gray, based in NYC...www.maningray.com or www.myspace.com/maningray

The Village Voice called Tina DaCosta (lead singer for MIG) "The most satisfying screech in rock and roll!"

Let me know what you think...

Awesome! I don't know how i could ever forget her. I have a live improvisation cd that she did with some other musicians whose names i can't recall right now, and her voice is truly spellbinding.

NOW I'll try and edit out the doubles, then divide the list in 2 sections, "singers/bands I already know" and "I never consciously heard anything sung by her/them".

nicfit 03.22.2007 01:11 PM

Well, with all the effort you guys put in writing suggestions, keeping them in serious consideration is a natural consequence to me.

edit: plus, this list could be useful for many other boarders.

That is very kind of you!! I've already seen several bands/artists that I've never heard before!

i like mazzy star, that is when I am in the mood to get really depressed. my pops used to be obsessed with Mazzy when I was in middle school.

fade into you is one of the most beautiful tunes ever....

the indians say not to eat mushrooms when the sun is out or it will make you insane. they are absolutely right.

Nina Persson's solo "A Camp", very nice record, wonderful voice.

Brigitte Fontaine

Erm... Toilet Boys.

I realize that the frontwoman is actually a transgendered man... but you have Elton John in your original list??? Miss Guy reminds me of Deborah Harry, but i think that's the point.

Also, The Poppy Family.
