One holy grail of mine at the moment is:

Everything in the BYG/Actual series on vinyl. Originals. I probably won't get any originals because they'll cost too much money but I will certainly pick up the reissues. Although I've heard they aren't mastered from the original tapes and are semi-bootlegs. The couple I have sound decent enough to me.

Yes and Yes.

I assume you all know that Harmonia and Cluster LPs got reissued in 2006 or 2007, by the way ...

Aye, I've got Lunar Surface in the post to me. Seasons seems a little harder to find, on vinyl at least. Maybe that one wasn't reissued. I've seen an original copy for $70 and seeing as it's a triple lp and what with the weak dollar, I am a little bit tempted.

jon boy 07.11.2007 04:33 AM

saw an originalpressing harry crews vinyl in athens, could not afford it.

it has been, i saw it in ray's jazz, but when i came back to get it it had gone and they said they couldn't order it back in. so i got the CD from amazon.

toxic johnny 07.11.2007 08:31 AM

I would cream my jeans if I was in the right place at the right time... with the right amount of money in my pocket and I saw Halve Maen by the Double Leopards on vinyl.

Also:
Harsh 70's Reality - Dead C
Walls Have Ears - SY

Both on vinyl... there are more but they don't spring mind at the moment.
Plus I'm at work and I have to be quick.... adios!

speaking of ray's jazz, i got halve maen there for £20, a bit pricey, but what can you do?

I have the Claude Delcloo one as an original. Pretty cool too. I couldn't afford the Don Cherry one ($80.00 13 years ago), but I did get the one by Freedom for cheap. Turned out it was cheap because it sucked. Sold it.
Got a reissue of the Gong one recently; it sounds good, but I had the same exact record with a different cover already and I found out the hard way when I threw it on...

yeah it's on the first floor of foyles bookshop on charing cross road, although they've cut down on selling psych/weird stuff of late. still, it's worth a look.

atsonicpark 07.11.2007 09:43 PM

hmm.

i guess the rarest album i own is msi - tight.. but it's scratched a lot.. i got it when i came out..

i also have slowdive- just for a day, which i think is in print again? but for a while it went for a lot. same for drive like jehu - yank crime. i got an original copy of that for $3. but it was reissued so my copy's probably not worth anything.

i had flipper - generic but sold it for $40 :)

pantophobia 09.05.2008 10:31 AM

so how have your searching been going? rabbits with teeth been blocking your path?

have since picked up Metalux's Florescent Tower (a present from Jennthebenn), Hanatarash 4, and just this morning got Sun City Girls - Torch of the Mystics in the Mail!!!!, also in the recent have picked up more recent grails like Boris - Flood, Sonic Death among other

pantophobia 09.05.2008 10:38 AM

some additions to the grail diary

Yoshimio - Yunnan Colorfree
Boredoms - Rebore Vol 1, Live in Sunflancisco
Magma - 1,001 Degree Centigrade
Spirit Caravan - Jug Fulla Sun
Cows - Cunning Stunts
Sonny Sharrock - Space Ghost Coast to Coast Sdtrk EP

RdTv 09.05.2008 03:09 PM

I try to use the policy of never making a list whilst digging. That is unles I'm going to the majestic mystical land dripping of rare and out of print-great condition records. Unless I make that journey, I usually just keep a lookout for Jazz, Krautrock, Funk, and Psych.

Rob Instigator 09.05.2008 03:17 PM

My holy grail, now that I have Polvo's "Celebrate the New Dark Age EP" on three 7" vinyls, is Sonic Youth's THE WALLS HAVE EARS

i need it. i want it.

ZEROpumpkins 09.05.2008 05:56 PM

Uhh given that Australia isn't exactly a hotbed for even the most slightly obscure bands, my list may sound relatively tame:
Polvo - Shapes (on Vinyl)
Superchunk - Here's Where the Strings Come In
Big Black - Atomizer
Unwound - The Future of What
Tortoise - S/T
Don Cab - All albums

er, australian post-punk & noise rock?

ZEROpumpkins 09.05.2008 08:36 PM

Not really my cup of tea, Australian music.

Death & the Maiden 09.05.2008 08:50 PM

The Verlaines - Hallelujah All the Way Home, Bird-Dog, Juvenilia
Haunted Henschel - Child, Deep Inside Her Bathrooms
Fimbulwinter - Servants of Sorcery
Ed Kuepper - everything

Australian music doesn't have just one kind of sound. If you look hard enough, you'll definitely find something you like.

ZEROpumpkins 09.05.2008 09:02 PM

Nah

Toilet & Bowels 09.06.2008 07:54 AM

Sometimes I feel like my record collection is complete, then I remember things I'd still love to find. I guess this will always be the case.

Anyway, I'd still love to be able to walk into the store one day and find these things on wax:

SY's Confusion is Sex, Bad Moon, and Sister LPs.

Stones boots from their MSG 72 gig. (I have recordings on CD-R, and one side of Nasty Music is from the gig, but there are awesome LPs devoted just to that concert that I'd love to get my hands on.)

Stones Ger Yer Leeds Lungs Out LP (or equivalent under another title. Again I have CD-R copies, but there's nothing like having the original LP.)

The Stone Roses 1st on LP. (I have the CD)

Ride - Nowhere on LP (I have the CD)

The Feelies - Only Life and Time for a Witness on LP (or CD). I have a beat up copy of Time for a Witness I'd love to replace.

A mint, sealed copy of the Beatles' white album from 1968 with a numbered cover. Yeah, right.

gmku 09.06.2008 08:12 AM

Oh, yeah, and....

The Spain release of Sticky Fingers on LP, the cover with the fingers coming out the can.

A first issue copy of The Modern Lovers on Beserkley label.

Dylan's Vol 4 Live 1966 album on LP.

Exile in Guyville on LP.

If by spiders you mean Lime Spiders, my friend is getting me one of their CD's (hopefully). He's the guitarist's son.

no, i mean The Spiders, they have an LP on the Pulled Out label

ZEROpumpkins 09.06.2008 08:48 AM

Oh. Well I'm not very "out there" with my tastes anyhow.

Nah different band, The Spiders are a blue moutains band that don't sound much like Tumbleweed or Radio Birdman. Also Zeropumpkin we've had all those albums other than the Polvo one on vinyl at some stage at the store I work in.

Also Toilet & Bowels great list!!!

ZEROpumpkins 09.06.2008 08:53 PM

I'm confused, Onani Nic. Everytime I stock search your website, I can't find anything I'm looking for :/

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 09.06.2008 08:55 PM

Unwound's first album.
Then one fucking day I'm in Portland and I find it used for $8 but I had no cash because I had spent it to get into a local show earlier.
