i listen to "dirty work" EVERYDAY, so i'd have to go with "tattoo you" or "rolling stones, now". "voodoo lounge" makes me weep at times.

There you go. It's either Beggars Banquet or Let It Bleed. Listen to the recordings; there is no debate on this for anyone that has appreciable sensibility. And after those, in my opinion, is Sticky Fingers. Then comes Get Yer Ya-Yas Out. (I believe it does count, biggest muff, because it's a release). Then, maybe Exile On Main Street is after that, but I'm not so sure since there are at least five other contenders for the number five slot. 12 x 5, Aftermath, Between the Buttons, Their Satanic Majesties Request and Goat's Head Soup are either as good or very close to being every bit as good as Exile. Hey, I love Mick Taylor's playing as much as anyone and he's featured on most of my faves, but Exile is not their best. Seems people think it's safe to tout it as such since it's a double platter or something. I don't know how in the hell it's garnered such a rep. So, in summary and for the umpteenth time, give it a rest gmku, Cantankerous and Everyneurotic... and all the other parrots too. In the end of course you're very much entitled to like what you purport to like, but sheesh, you've got me almost ready to agree with chronic naysayer sarramkrop that this thread is a chore and a bore. |
Tie - Sticky Fingers and Let it Bleed
I could loop Gimme Shelter for an hour and not get tired of it. |
but i thought we all agreed that the Rolling Stones wre übershite.
no? oops |
Can't say I've yet to find a full Stones album that I really really love. If pressed, I'd say STICKY FINGERS. But I will say this much, my favorite song would be "Back Street Girl."

Wow, some ecleticism. Good for you, matt g.
It's great that the Stones are just that great. But seriously, Beggars Banquet or Let it Bleed ha ha. |
^^^Let It Bleed is definitely one of my faves of the Stones' oeuvre. I should re-dig that out at some point this week.

sticky fingers
although everything they've done up to goats head soup is the best music of all time |

sticky fingers is my fave, brown sugar being my favourite song.

Beggar's Banquet not a weak song on the album
|
Exile.
|
Beggars Banquet
|
or maybe let it bleed.........can't decide
|
Beggars Banquet defenitely.
Right after come Let it Bleed, Between the Buttons, Sticky Fingers and Exile. This was their greatest period, thou I like most of their albums a lot. I was suspicious the Decca-collection "Metamorphosis". I have seen it, but I haven´t got guts to buy it, because I thought it could be bad. Then i borrowed it from the library and it turned out much better than I thought, some songs are as classic as those in "Beggars". |
[quote=Satan]YOU SUCK GET THE HELL OUT OF HERE
the rolling stones haven't made a good album since tattoo you Wrong. Bridges to Babylon is even better than Tattoo You. |

Yes, Exile, and I'm not saying that because of the re-release bandwagon. It just....fuckin.....grooves and flows, Man. Here the Stones just relaxed, didn't try and make a Grand Statement, and the result was otherworldly. Mick insists that it's shit today, so that should tell you all you need to know. |
Quote:
That IS a fuckin great song innit, and actually, kind of in the Exile vein. The Stones were at their best when they didn't try too hard. Fuck you Mick, just relax for once, and I might be able to watch/listen to you again. Something in me still hopes that they make ONE more record, and it's great, and 2012 is a happy 50th anniv. But, sigh...... |
they wrote waiting on a friend during the goats head soup period, fun fact for you
|
Yeah, I know most of Tatoo You was shit already in the can. That was a fuckin good album though...Black Limousine, people?
|
beggars banquet + let it bleed
+ copious amounts of red wine |
|

Following the River from the Exile out takes not a bad song at all imo |
US and UK govt agencies tried to take down the Stones:

i sorta agree with kim deal on this on this one
She says, "I heard the last Rolling Stones record was good. The thing is I don't even care if it's the best thing they've ever done, I just wouldn't listen to it. And it's not anything that they're doing wrong. As a listener, I don't want to hear about it." beggars thru exile, you can't fuck with any of it, after that, i like some girls and they have a few songs here and there but c'mon its over. on a side note, anybody pick up keith's new autobiography? |
Quote:
what the main dfference between Kim Deal and the Rolling Stones? About 500 million dollars. Keith's autobio looks like essential reading. |

i'd say its their penises |
Exile On Main Street and Satanic Majesties Second Request
|

Maybe you´re right. Bigger Bang is ok album, but in that album there´s kind of feeling that "new power" of Bridges to Babylon and Voodoo Lounge is gone. And Keith Richards looks and acts like a demented man in Shine a Light -movie. Maybe it would be better if they didn´t make any albums or concerts anymore because I think the end of Rolling Stones will be much more elegant if they don´t do anything anymore. |
