I started a thread in their forum but it took 'til today for me to get in there. I started this one last night right after the show. This is all the access I had to vent with and I KNEW somebody on here would get it. But that didn't happen until Baby Bulldog just posted.
I'm not kissing Jack's ass anymore. Let the corporations do it, for now. Quote:

i was at the msg gig the night before, and yeah it sucks for you, but you sound completely out of line on this. i could never get pissed off because SY cut a gig short, for whatever reason. id be more concerned why the band was pissed off or what happened. and this shoe, did it actually hit him?
|
|
The majority of nirvana shows were quite short.
|
i am not sure i can keep my concentration for two hours bo matter who i see. there are exceptins to the rule for sure but generally i dont like shows to go on and on.
|
when I saw sonic youth the first time the show was like three hours. Pretty bad ass.
|
Quote:
well i for one expressed sympathy for you, and ive been to gigs that have been a dissapointment for one reason or another too, but what does this one night mean in the grand scheme of your life? I mean for crying out loud, in 5-6 years time are you still going to be fuming? |
only thing im gonna be fuming about in 6 years is the goddamn rsvp line to 77 drummers.
|
Big festivals; corporate venues always a disappointment, but to have the band blow you off in that environment sucks major ass. There's no two ways about it! Even if the show itself was GREAT, which it was.
And this was CLEARLY a blow off at the end. I don't know how else to prove to those that weren't there that it was obviously going to go a bit longer until poor Jack couldn't take it anymore. Quote:

After reading all of Concrete's posts, I just realized something... This thread is a joke, right? It has to be...
If you're joking, I totally support this, because your whining is hilarious. But if you're serious... goddamn dude ... |
hell, if I were Jack White and I was on stage, and Im doing my thing, and some idiot throws a shoe at me, I'd be all "Im Jack White and I don't have to take this shit" too...how does he know the next thing isnt a beer bottle that hits him in the face? I'd blame security or hell, you guys shouldve kicked that dudes ass...he's the one who ruined it. at the SY show last summer, some drunk idiot got up on stage and jumped off intending to surf, well he nearly hit me and this older dude I was standing next to, instead of holding him up, the older dude throws the idiot's scrawny ass to the ground...dude smacks against the concrete, and just runs off...i looked at the older dude and smiled...
|
To be honest, if a performer cant take hostility that doesnt result in fatal injury i have no sympathy, but then im not a performer

There is one white stripes release worth hearing. It's a limited edition vinyl that came out forever ago and it has a bunch of Beefheart covers.
Otherwise, they're shit. |
also, "you ROCK but FUCK YOU" might be one of the best and most ironic song titles ever.
|
wait...
who pays money to go see mars volta just so they can throw piss at them? that's awesome. |
Not sure how to hyperlink here because I've only done it a few times. But here's the local review and some postings from locals that were there at the bottom.

nothin like stripped down rock n roll!
|
The longest I've ever seen a band play was Ween, at nearly 3 hours. By then, I was pretty happy they were done.
|
like I said before, bruce springsteen and the E street band play 3-4 huor shows REGULARLY.
a great long show can change your life! |
Quote:
the real question is WHO PAYS TO SEE MARS VOLTA? |
Quote:
yeah, i thought that was a given. i admire the dedication of the guy that paid the money, and sat through the show, just to throw piss. |
Quote:
the only answer I can think of is EX-LOVER or sarramkrop |
I saw he white stripes at Bluesfest just a couple of weeks ago. They were good, one of the few performances I have seen that I wish could have gone on forever (I had to leave it early though, in order to catch a bus).
|
Also boycott AIDS Wolf and Clap yr hands and say yeah. AIDS played a 60 minute set and Clap yr hands played a 40 minute set. Boycott them
|
OK If this is real all is forgiven because the audience wasn't intentionally ripped off! But GODDAMNIT can't somebody say something at the show?

I'm pretty sure that sitting through that would make me want to end my life. |
me too savage clone, me too, for I am not the bruce fanatic in any way, but goddamn, a band should play 90 minutes AT LEAST if they are gonna be headlining at a large concert.
|
AIDS Wolf are the worst band i've heard in my fucking life. I love every band on skin graft except them... I guess skin graft just needed extra money by signing such a shitty band that fits in perfectly with those sub-"noise" scene bands like magick markers and the like who are awful. Ugh.

I love AIDS wolf. They're my friend's friends and they play in my friend's basement every time they come to ottawa, it's amazing. I don't like Magik Markers either, but I find AIDS wolf fantastic |

stay that way, you're lucky. anyhoo, dude, i live in mexico, if i get 10 good bands to play here, then i feel it's a good year for music, if two of those ten are not metal, i consider myself super lucky to attend them. if any of those shows is by someone i really want to see and have waited for years to see them and they did a two song set like they mean it, i so would love it. so what if they play too short or two long? time is relative, if a grindcore band played for two hours, it would be exhausting; a regular grind set is like 15 minutes long and you get the full experience. |

White Stripes are one of them bands (like Radiohead were mentioned in the other thread) that shouldn't be popular and in the mainstream but are. They write these simple songs that are really well written by one dude who is one of a kind who churns out cool tune after cool tune. They're just guitars and drums (obviously vocals too). That's not what the public, mainstream society are used to or have been designed to listen to. The music is stripped back, and a toddler could play what is the drums. And Jack White does whatever he wants, everytime without waivering. He's a pretty lucky guy. |

If you have seating. haha. I saw the Mars Volta earlier this year and they were fantastic, played for over 2 hours and I was tired of it by the time they finished up - I was hoping they'd finish because I had general admission tix. I saw them a few years ago at a festival during Deloused and they played a standard 45min set, and I couldn't get enough. I saw Silverchair a few years ago at a theatre, front row seats and it was a great experience. It was like watching a film. Good live music and pure comfort - not much better than that. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xy60WlJS0Mk http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GgknZKYuJKo |

Um you rip them off by bootlegging them and they cut a show short due to safety reasons? Boycott you more like |
Safety? How do you mean safety? The goons in that place were probably ready to eject that idiot they were so hardcore. And I know this thread is getting too long to read the whole thing, but I DID post a link to Rolling Stone where they reported that Jack and Meg cut out early because he backed into a microphone stand and was injured. That is allegedly the real story but NOBODY said anything at the damn show.
OH and I buy more music than you could probably ever DREAM of! I can't even fit it into the house anymore I have so much of it. So a few White Stripes burns 'til I figure out whether I need to own them or not doesn't bother me and shouldn't bother them either. I ALWAYS buy whatever is worth owning. Quote:
|
concrete's replies keep getting more and more hilarious... damn.
|
Yeah man, those microphone stands. Sneak right up on ya!!
|
I wouldn't go see them, I like some songs buit not all.
|
"OH and I buy more music than you could probably ever DREAM of! I can't even fit it into the house anymore I have so much of it."
Sounds like you're a spoiled brat with rich parents who is just whining because you didn't get your way when your favorite shitty rock group played a few minutes less than you wanted them to. |
