Disgruntled Youth 08.14.2007 04:42 PM

Surely their is a list of movies that suck more than any of these.

I know some of them are overrated but each film is iconic in it's own way look @ the atttention we are giving them.

Disgruntled Youth 08.14.2007 04:44 PM

My pic for overrated is Grease I never sat through the entire film not even 10 min. of it & I can tell you already how much I think it sucks. I will second what Savage said about musicals!!!

pbradley 08.14.2007 04:44 PM

God, another "overrated" thread.

really? i thought it was rated quite LOW. a lot of people didn't like it for various reasons-- to me it was a great horror movie, however. i was fucking terrified through most of it, in a way that dracula shit can't make me (i laugh at horror movies, or they gross me out, but they don't "scare" me-- this one did.) oh yes, the real monsters--the mega-rich.

At least it was rated high in France (critics said it was his final masterpiece blabla...).

I agree with your horror movie reference (I was scared too, but something prevented me from thinking the movie worked).

Some great musicals for you to try:
Singin' In The Rain
Cabaret
French Cancan

Savage Clone 08.14.2007 04:54 PM

No way on Cabaret.
Thank you for playing.

Pookie 08.14.2007 04:56 PM

Yes freaking way on Cabaret.

And anything else by Bob Fosse (Sweet Charity).

jon boy 08.14.2007 04:58 PM

i dont like musicals really apart from:

mary poppins
oliver (because of oliver reed)
chitty chitty bang bang (because of the child catcher)

Bitter and twisted? I can't belief I'm on here defending musicals and I'm being accused of being bitter and twisted.

Ditto and ditto. (Coincidentally, these are the names of the two detectives in my avatar)

sarramkrop 08.14.2007 05:13 PM

Pulp Fiction or anything that Quentin Tarantino has done is overrated. Shaft is a shit movie too.

Toilet & Bowels 08.14.2007 05:16 PM

american pie, that film was extraordinarily overrated

I did enjoy Reservoir Dogs, but in general I detest that man and his work.

sarramkrop 08.14.2007 05:27 PM

I prefer Jackie Brown but purely because Pam Grier is a fox. The rest is poor ideas copied from exploitation movies from the 70's. The man is a jerk, generally heralded as a genius by blokes who consider Mohammed Ali a hero but see only danger coming from black people. Fuck him and them too.

errr...that's the whole point with tarantino, he's always stated that he takes all his ideas from those movies.

that there's a generation of jerk offs who think tarantino invented everything he does in his movies, well that's another matter.

I wouldn't say that. You mean he's been called out on numerous occasions, till it transpired that he has a distorted view of black people,.The sort of view that inhabits the brain of your average white geeky jerk, and the result has been him having to explain the motivations behind such rubbish movies.

So Tarantino also has a distorted view of asian people because of his homages to Japanese samurai films and Chinese martial art films in Kill Bill?

Does he also have a distorted view of Italians in how they are represented in Reservoir Dogs?

I guess he also has a distorted view of Kurt Russell for making him play a serial killer.

He has a talent for portraying other ethnics solely in a cartoonish way, you're right.

no, he has said it upfront, saying jackie brown is a homage to blaxplotation, saying kill bill is his attempt at a cheapo kung fu/samurai/revenge film, etc.

I think we're talking about three different things, here: style, content and message. Tarantino is guilty on those three counts, but for all the wrong reasons.

Edit- By the third homage to other people's work, one would think that strong ideas of their own are lacking, wouldn'they?

Everyneurotic 08.14.2007 07:09 PM

well whatever.

people in general, this is going to be my final post on this thread, for whatever point of reference from this point on regarding my position on something:

-if you are slamming a movie i like: FUCK OFF YOU TASTELESS ASSHOLES, GO ROT IN HELL.

-if you are slamming a movie i don't like: WORD.

i'm done with you assholes.

luxinterior 08.14.2007 07:53 PM

I hated Amelie.
I am not a Lynch fan.
I am not a Wes Anderson fan.

But I need to defend Barry Lyndon, absolutely one of my favorite movies. Good god that movie is good. God.

all suck and are therefore overrated..

pretty much any film that's come out since the 00's that has had any acclaim.

and no there are no bad scorsesce films, his films are underrated if anything, raging bull rules my balls.

pirates isnt over rated. The musical score is fucking phenominal, and therefore saves them. and as a female, I would run away with jack sparrow in like two seconds.

matrix sucks but only because they ripped off other movies.

lord of the rings are over rated but in the same way that harry potter is. geek love can make things seem more popular than they actually are.. cos geeks come in droves. and dress up.

requiem is totally over rated though. I agree there.

tarantino doesnt play homage to fucking martial arts. hey plays hommage to blood and gore. fullstop.

demonrail666 08.14.2007 08:01 PM

I'm amazed people still even argue about Quentin Tarantino.

phoenix 08.14.2007 08:02 PM

Im not arguing. Im partaking in a thread.

demonrail666 08.14.2007 08:13 PM

Anything involving Christina Ricci is guaranteed to get a big cult following, despite the fact that it's poo.

atsonicpark 08.14.2007 09:21 PM

kubrick is not overrated.. he's a master.

you guys are nuts.

Overrated by whom? It is at the moment underrated. When the film critics finally come together to praise it properly then you'll be pillaged.

Cantankerous 08.14.2007 11:26 PM

i can't fucking watch it just because it has tom cruise in it
didn't kubrick die during production or something?

No, after. He survived to camouflage the naughty sex that the MPAA deemed too risque for the kids. Fortunately EWS will soon be released on DVD in the states in its original uncut form. Silly Americans are too fuggin prude.

Tom Cruise I don't have a problem with. I never have. And I'm okay with that.
