woah there!!!! those are way too heavy and noisy for my tastes!!! what else do you listen to? extreme harsh noise collective *NSYNC?

alyasa 05.21.2006 01:18 PM

carcass is interesting

Everyneurotic 05.21.2006 01:20 PM

carcass were awesome, just stay away from their album swan song, it's not worth it, even the bands hates it. in fact, the band broke up during the recording of that album

alyasa 05.21.2006 01:23 PM

I particularly enjoy Heartwork. And what about Godflesh - Streetcleaner?

actually that's the only one i have besides a peel session and their last show ever, but it's a really rewarding listen after you get into it. play it loud!!!! it's very bleak and monolithically heavy.

blots 05.21.2006 02:36 PM

I thought "Rrroooaaarrr!" was supposed to be one of Voivod's worst albums?

One thing some of the people on here might like is some of the more jazzy/progressive death metal, like Atheist's "Unquestionable Presence" or Cynic's "Focus."

celtic frost - vanity/nemesis

very interesting album.. contains a cover of "this island earth" by bryan ferry and bowie's "heroes"..
i think the band have remastered and re-released their back catalogue, and they might even have a new album..

alyasa 05.23.2006 08:56 AM

I just listened to Meshuggah's Catch 33 again, and it really is crushing... I was wondering if there are any recommendations that are similar to this noise/metal/math/experiment/.

Everyneurotic 05.23.2006 09:44 AM

rrroooaaarrr is voivod's most underrated album, the reason people look down on it it's because the production is very rough and the arrangements are very complex, but i think there lies the charm and genius of the album. i certainly like it more than dimension hatross.

celtic frost's first album since vanity/nemesis, entitled monotheist, will be released on may 30, that's next week.

thewall91 05.23.2006 09:53 AM

Moistboyz. any other fans? check out "i'm gonna kick your ass" off moistboyz III.

these words have been used to describe them: "Pure, unadulterated, fuck-your-sister-with-a-garden-hose and punch-your-balls-off-with-a-flowerpot ROCK"

also, be sure to catch "heavy: the history of metal" four-parter on vh1. last night was the first show. every night this week. it's metal month on vh1. i can't be the only one who tuned into behind the music: ratt.

atari 2600 05.23.2006 09:55 AM

of note?

vh-1 has a new documentary called Heavy: The Story of Metal

it just premeired last night & is being replayed at noon eastern today

ratt were fucking awesome!!!

but as much as i like them, i don't consider them metal, even if 99% of the earth's population does.

umjammer atomsk 05.23.2006 11:13 AM

I pretty much laugh my ass off or get nauseous when ever i hear metal music. It all seems so empty and trivial, sorry guys. I hate metal.

atari 2600 05.23.2006 11:24 AM

I'm not a bifg metal fan here either & death metal is the worst...some moron bellowing out all the time like a braying jackass & all...

i watched Behind the Music: Ratt also. Robbin Crosby...wow, he was a mess.

Ratt were rather poppy metal, but much better most & much better than Poison. C.C. Deville seems like a nice guy (The Surreal Life), but I hate Poison.

to think he was once "the hot one".... (though my crushes were on stephen pearcy and bobby blotzer). right about the time i was really feeling sorry for him he said "i don't want people to feel sorry for me," and that made me feel worse.

atari 2600 05.23.2006 11:55 AM

the first couple of ratt albums are still good...

on that show today (heavy: the story of metal), there was some stuff about alice cooper & then kiss, ac/dc is up next after the break...

stephen pearcy had a funny comment when asked about kiss: "cha-ching!"

paul stanley (in full make-up, no less) talked about the disastrous "kiss meets the phantom" tv movie

& the best part was when sebastian bach from skid row said that led zeppelin fans used to beat him up for liking kiss...i guess they should have kicked his ass even harder, because skid row sure did suck...

"YEAH BIATCH, I'M TALKING TO YOU!!!!" :D

Mackle 05.23.2006 03:44 PM

Some metal you should check out:

Wolves in the throne Room-American Black Metal
Graves at Sea-Doom
Asunder-Doom
Black Witchery-Black Metal
Buried at Sea-Doom
Baroness-Dont know to describe them. just check them out
Boris-Stoner
Xasthur-Brilliant black metal
Levithan-Black Metal

umjammer atomsk 05.23.2006 04:09 PM

What's the difference between black, doom and death metal? I just wanna know.

stereotyp 05.23.2006 04:12 PM

death - very fast, very low tuned guitars, growling d00ds at mike ( "It hast to be faster, it has to be more brutal!" - CC ), lyrics are about blood, death, killin people, sick shit...

black - faster than death, very high tuned guitars (sometimes no bass guitar), screaming guys at mike, lyrics are about hell, devil, darkness, pure evil essence in everyones heart...and death...^^

doom - slow, sad, suicidal...^^

basics...hrhr

(€ sry, my spelling is very bad today...)

Doom metal is slow crushing metal. Probably my favourite.

Black Metal is pretty evil and fast and has a lot of anti christian sentiment.

Death Metal is not my thing so I cant be bothered

Shit descriptions. Just listen to the music and it'll all be good

golden child 05.23.2006 06:31 PM

doom has a pretty evil setiment as well, more sludge.

UNEARTHY TRANCE
slays! get the trident or season of seance, science of silence

some other suggestions, im not extremely well versed in the subject so these are mostly the standards
THE MELVINS
SUNN O))
KHANATE
BLACK FLAG (my war is their more metalish album)
CIRCLE
EARTH
ISIS
SWANS

if your interested in black metal
ABRUMTUM
DARKTHRONE
LEVIATHAN
GORGOROTH
XASTHUR
EMIT

ive seen some grind bands mentioned here but ill stay clear from that, i could go on...

I asked this question a while ago, you've provided a suitable answer. Ace, top, thanks, have some kudos.

Onani Nic 05.24.2006 02:58 AM

Anyone who disregards all metal bands hasn't look into it enough. There is more chance of someone who listens to Sonic Youth to enjoy Isis than a fan of Iron Maiden.

A Thousand Threads 05.24.2006 03:39 AM

Some stuff i enjoy

ISIS
JESU
SUNN O)))
EARTH

i know
kinda standart for a sonic youth geek

but i really can´t stand black metal or death metal
with their super sonic guitar solos
mostly silly lyrics
double kick drum
etc..

but this is just my narrow-minded opinion

krastian 05.24.2006 02:23 PM

Do any of you guys like Between the Buried and Me? They are pretty tight.

Haha, nice answer.

Slayer's Reign In Blood is good
early Metallica is good
Maiden are OK

That is as far as I go....

I like their self titled the best. I thought Alaska had some good moments.

alyasa 05.26.2006 06:18 AM
