bad brains go beyond the "best hardcore bands" and into the realm of "best rock n roll bands period". they played so fast, so intense, so technically challenging, dr. know's guitars were like progressive dub filtered through hardcore, the rythyms, just insane, and of course, h.r., one of the most compelling front men of all time. the best vocal range in all punk rock, capable of peace and love and hatred and violence almost simultaneously.

Underground Out Of Poland-Dezerter,bought that lp when it came out-still sounds as raw now as then!,liked Reagan Youth back then too!

My all time favorite would have to be Minor Threat.

Hell, I like a lot of hardcore though. Black Flag, Husker Du, Dead Kennedys, Bad Brains, Government Issue, Agent Orange, Bad Religion [early stuff], DOA, SSD, MDC, etc...

husker du were amazing. were red kross ever considered hardcore? if they were then id say them too.

They aren't really hardcore, but Frenzal Rhomb are my favourite non-post-punk punk band.

Is there a difference between Hardcore and Punk? I know the differences instinctively but surely it has to be more than just bald heads, tattoos and wrapping your mic lead around your wrist. or maybe not.

Bad Brains up to Quickness is some of my favorite music period. Nothing charges me with so much energy as that stuff does. I can listen to Fugazi; Repeater, Jesus Lizard; Goat and Liar, and Scratch Acid again and again and again as well.

i like born innocent better, but the first redd kross 7 inch was amazing too.

One of these Saturdays I'm gonna check out the hardcore matinee at ABC NO Rio...one of these young bands has got to kick some ass.

They are easily in my top 5 bands ever and Earl is my third favorite drummer EVER right behind John Bonham and Dave Grohl.

Minor Threat is a hair behind Bad Brains for me....very hard to choose.

no. Roach Motel is objectively really fucking bad, thats part of their charm.

yeah most of their stuff could be considered awful, but they did have some classics and they are still pretty fun to listen to.

I also like Keith Morris era Black Flag. I should buy The First Four Years.

Hmmm theres something about Negative Approach that just isnt that urgent to me . I'd call the Nihilistics , Void , and 'some' Black Flag and 'some' others urgent , theres something about NA's vocals that sound like hes pissed off about his meatloaf being burnt , pissed off that he got cut off in traffic, pissed off that his favorite football team losing , somethign not as vital like poisoned plasma in the vein as other bands in comparison . The way i see it , hardcore is easily divided in somethign as simple as the difference in this vocal approach .
