Just finished listening to this for the first time; I like it, although it's kind of what you'd expect it to sound like, given those involved. It's build up nicely. The excerpt on myspace is from the beginning; the hurting ears bit doesn't start until Merzbow and Gustafsson really join in after twenty-something minutes.
It's one long track, 57'32 acording to the inlay of the cover. I don't speak Danish, but I guess "optaget live ved Roskilde Festival af Barok Films" means it was recorded by Barok Films, a Danish film company. So who knows there's video footage too? |
pokk... how do you already have this with the inlay and all?

steve shelley's my dad.

I have no idea if you're being serious. |
I had one of the worst days I've had in quite some time, and put this on (for the first time) when I got home -- the smile on my face is beautiful.
(actually, my smile is fucking ugly as shit, but this is seriously awesome!) |
Be careful, SYR8 Will Hurt Your Smile
|
now you have it chris? cmon.

k, i spent the past 3 days moving and just kept this looping in the car. must have heard it about 5 or 6 times now, it was the only thing that kept me sane (hottest weekend of the year and HUGE tourist event going on, traffic was ridiculous). it really builds up to a ferocious sqreewl of pure sound fury over the course of the hour, just a real pleasant listening experience. it definitely explores far more interesting territory than SYR6 (though i have to be honest, i don't think i've listened to that one nearly enough). i keep zoning out midsentence so this may not be particularly cohesive, but i think fans of 'the other side' of sonic youth will greatly enjoy this release. it's definitely not just noise for noise's sake, it's quite a thrilling listen. |

Weird. I spent all weekend moving too! The only 2 CD's that weren't packed were Lil Wayne's THA CARTER III and Sonic Youth's HITS ARE FOR SQUARES. Listened to them both back and forth over and over. |
cool cool ting
|
I noticed this was already listed in the SYstore... so I put it in my cart, and tried to order, but alas, it said out of stock. When will we be able to preorder?
|
alright, I'm getting sick of people saying "I just listened to it" and leaving out HOW or WHERE they got it. Psh.
|
Nice. I didnt know the SYR's came out as promo's. Full artwork?
|
I bought it. Listening now!

Scroll to second page of the file for The Wire review.

I just listened to it three times on the weekend and I noticed Kim's voice sounds very close the reed of the saxaphone...
Did anyone else notice that the sounds are indistinuishable? |

LOL! Yeah, and it's "only" 57mins. Someone whined about "I wish they'd write some new music instead" or words to that effect. Well, wtf is this performance then if it is not "new music"? I dunno, I'm confused I guess. |
I kind of agree with you dude, I never really got into SYR8. SYR3 and SYR7 on the other hand are two beautifully major mindfucks. Silver Sessions as well..
|
Silver Sessions is a masterpiece, great album!!
