thank you. unless you have had it, then you dont know what the fuck you are talking about. people literally kill themselves over this problem. |

yeah, same here. we were kind of "blown away" and i think we might have been a little bit rude. :( |
66.7 on that test thing.
After a Dino Jr show I had a constant ringing/tone in my ears that prevented me from hearing normal conversation or sleeping soundly for 3 full days afterward and I get strange popping sensations in my ears from time to time. So, earplugs from here out. |

I suppose, being from the north, that I can get away with it-- HOWEVER, you're a proper southern person and your behaviour was unacceptable. |
Sorry :( . It's the effect living in birmingham for the past 9 years has had!

you should invest in a pair of these ![]() when you go to shows, everything sounds super clear, just turned down a couple of notches. distortion is still there and what not. i have a pair but i've only worn them once. i get drunk and forget to wear them. but yeah, my ears are all fucked up from standing infront of speakers at raves for 4 years. I used to go to them every weekend (sometimes twice a week). I'll probably need surgery in 10-20 years. Whatever. |
surgery dont cure that shit man
unless you mean a cochlear implant wich sucks nads so guard those waxy canals |

" The solution A couple of years ago, my good friend and fellow guitarist Phil Montoya told me about High Fidelity HEAROS. I picked up a couple of pairs right away and was completely amazed. I was so used to the muffling effect of normal ear plugs that it seemed like the HiFi HEAROS were doing nothing at all, until I pulled them out. Then it sounded just like somebody had cranked up the volume with no EQ change at all. In fact, HEAROS cut the volume level by up to 20 decibels with almost no change in the frequency balance of the music. It's as if you suddenly have the power to tell everyone in the band and everyone in the audience to TURN IT DOWN! Much of my musical inspiration comes from the quality of the tones I'm getting from my rig. Until HiFi HEAROS, I was losing that extra musical boost because the sparkling overtones and high harmonics were completely blocked out by my foam ear plugs. The HEAROS Ear Filters let through all that musical beauty without all that potentially damaging volume. They are easier to use than the foam plugs, they're more comfortable, and they last longer—with care you can get a year or more out of a single pair. " "There is nothing more precious to a musician than his hearing. Even the most outrageous, loudest-playing guitar players I know always protect their ears. Besides being a loud guitar player, I am also a connoisseur of fine earplugs and the only ones that work for me are the HEAROS. Even if you don't like my music, take this precious advice and protect your ears when you're wailing away." — Steve Vai |

man, thanks for that crypto, i am about to order a pair now. :) |
no problem!!!

My hearing, in my left ear mostly, deafened a bit after, ironically enough a Mission of Burma show. The irony being that Roger Miller of MoB has tinnitus pretty badly.

i got exactly 75% after 2 interruptions, one of which i had to guess cos i was in the phone with a fed for 5 minutes discussing paperworks, and i have no musical training whatsoever so i guess i'm doing ok, considering. |
My hearing's okay I think. I've been through some loud rock shows without plugs, and had ringing in my ears for a couple days, but luckily I don't have tinnitus. for the last couple of years earplugs have been a mandatory precaution for concerts.
As a child I suffered from ear infections constantly so that might've left its mark in my ears. I know some frequency ranges are inaudible for me, and I'm completely deaf to 18khz and above or so. |
I got 50 on that damn test. I feel sadden. But I knew it was coming.

i have been wearing earplugs since i was seven. my parents wisely made me when i first started playing drums. i wear them to nearly every show (except) for the ones i mix but i don't do rock shows much. nothing pisses me off more than seeing people take babies and very young children to loud gigs and not give them ear plugs not understanding that their hearing is far more susceptible. edit: my ear plugs were veru expensive though (cough... au$250) and have a flat frequency response unlike foam ones and most of the rubber ones. |

Same here. I almost cried when right after the end of the set, I turned and saw a couple with a, like, 1 year old baby.. at a fu*kin' SEPULTURA gig. |
I think it's not too good for someone my age. I can't hear that "mosquito ringtone" (high pitched noise only young people can hear, so students use them for their phones in class so they won't get in trouble).
My hearing seems to be quite sensitive - I don't listen to my iPod at high volumes like other people my age do. My ears will hurt when someone passes me an earphone when they're listening to music on the highest volume, and they won't understand that I don't enjoy the music. I think they listen to their music really loudly, not because their hearing is not sensitive, but because they're trying to look cool. At concerts, I will flinch along with the drum beat. I found The Scientists painfully loud. |
I've tried to wear ear plugs regularly this past weekend at the Roadburn festival. It went pretty well for the most part, but everytime when a band played that I was really into (Acid Mothers Guru, Wolves in the Throne Room, Church of Misery, etc) I threw them out immediately. I plan on wearing them more often from now on though.
|
after the weekend i just had, my hearing has taken a massive hammering. it was worth it though.
|
i can hear very, very minute sounds perfectly but i have trouble with loud noises.
|
I thought it was damaged by the numerous concerts I went to as I have trouble following conversations sometimes but when I got it tested a few months ago it was actually normal for my age. So I realized I just had a concentration problem (caused by my constant daydreaming).

I remember Atari Teenage Riot as being lots louder than Merzbow was - I wonder if my hearing has deteriorated since then... Haino in Newcastle was probably the loudest thing I've seen, it was absolutely absurd. But then there's a lot more dynamic sounds in Haino. As I've said, Merzbow was a big doughy nougat of sound. EDIT: I'll add that probably the most intense sound I ever heard was a Kaija Saariaho concert at the Royal Albert Hall, although seeing a sextet version of Schoenberg's Verklarte Nacht last year was pretty amazing as well. Intense in the sense of being unable to breathe and wanting to collapse. Just to be clear. |
MINISTRY - The Mind is a Terrible Thing....Tour
it's not really been the same since. fuck it. |

i get that too, its hard to describe but it's so annoying, like when i swallow my ears crack and stuff Quote:
i agree, they were very loud. i was right infront of the bass player and his amp so all i heard was bass, got sick of them in the end, my ears were killing me |
My ears rang for two days after seeing Dinosaur Jr for the first time.
I haven't noticed any loss of hearing. |
at the moment bloody awful, because in addition to the hearing loss ive sustained at concerts and in my own home i have an ear infection in both ears and not only can i not hear a damn thing (not very well at least), but it's extremely painful.
|
After seeing My Bloody Valentine in 1990, my ears rang with high-pitched sounds for the next 3 days. That's about as much as they've suffered from in a live environment. Many years of listening to loud music hasn't done my ears many favours, though.
|
Now let's not go envying the easy listeners!
|
i saw the nihilist spasm band at the weekend, also on the bill were skullflower and carlos giffoni. the gigs were in a church so the sound really echoed and sounded great but my hearing is totaly shot.

what did you make of the nihilist spasm band, jon boy?
saw them last night for the second time and they really blew me away, despite of them missing their main vocalist. |
they were fantsastic! i didnt know what to think of them at first then they went into a frenzy and i was very impressed.

I've definitely lost some hearing, and I think loud music is part, or most, of the reason. Protect your ears! I've also heard (no pun intended) that you should never remove the wax from your ears. Supposedly, it's there for protection.
|
Huh?
No seriously, my hearing is perfect, which is pretty incredible seein that I've seen Sonic Youth close to 30 times, including the Bad Moon Rising tour when I burried my head in Thurston's monitor, plus everyone from Big Black to Painkiller (they were the absolute loudest thing ever). I'm just lucky I guess. |
