God yeah, a picture disb. flippin hell. I probably do. It's gonna be in a box somewhere. Shit I wanna hear that now.
|
Ignore the silly bugger dancing, and wallow in the sheer brilliance that is Fowley.
|
Cherry Bomb is a damn fine song.
|
That's when I first found out about Kim Fowley. You played me "No Pussyfooting" at 16RPM as well...I recall being really hungover that day, and after playing that, I was really invigorated again - such a good album to hear in a "wrong" context.
|
And this may come as a bit of a surprise to some.
|
I just want to say that the Peaches song that is produced by Joan Jett is truly danceable and groovy. Man, it's good stuff.
|
singing cherry bomb is so much fun
|
"I'm a Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-Ch-ch-Cherry BOMB!"
You be most right, Cantanky. |
Just making sure, but we are all aware of the supposed Joan Jet - Carmen Electra 'friendship', are we not?
|
^^Nope - if J Jett's lesbian, that makes me love her even more. Carmen Electra's just a fake-boobied bimbo to me [/end pointless supposition]
|
There's one of those spoken word bits on one of the tracks off, I think, their first album where they're acting as prostitutes. It's one of the most, cynical immoral and yet truly brilliant things in all of Rockdom

Yeah, they're apparantly an item. |
i heard about that
well, more power to them. i would sleep with carmen electra. shit, i would sleep with joan jett! kim fowley is a crazy fuck but he did write bubblegum! |
I wouldn't sleep with Joan Jett per se, but I'd love to go trawling the best gay clubs in LA with her - we'd rip up the joint, no messin'. You'd be invited, of course, as the Total NYC Rock! element - every party needs that.
|
She is meant to be a bit of an animal by all accounts. sounds like a plan
|
^^^Ok, demon, next year then?
|
|
^^^great vid, demonrail, Sets out her sexula politics straight up, too.
|
This needs to be seen, for about thirty seconds they become a fucking doom band!

Moshe mentioned 'em in Jan. '07, and Dead-Air in July that year.
Funny though how when I made an in memoriam thread (as Intellivision...one of the Intellivision threads that didn't get deleted) for drummer Sandy West in October '06 there was only one mock-reply from 'marras and one sincere reply from toxic johnny. That's right, only one person gave a shit enough to post a "RIP" message for Sandy West, folks. See for yourselves: The Runaways drummer, Sandy West, dies at 47 I have two of their bootlegs: The Runaways 7/19/76 The Agora Cleveland sbd 12/01/78 The Palladium Hollywood Glad to see some other people rocking out to them though. Now, if you please, go and download an amazing rock 'n' roll extravaganza from NYC '82 at the 320 Club of Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The boot is "Rebel Rebel" and there are a number of excellent cover tunes performed. I cannot be bothered to put it up as lossless. Here it is in track-by-track mp3 from licorice pizza blog. http://licorice-pizza.blogspot.com/2...-nyc-1982.html Do not delay. Prove to me that you are not a hopeless lamer. Do it now and rock out, preferably at loud volume, shortly thereafter. They do three songs The Runaways used to do, "Wait For Me," "Black Leather," and the epic "I Love Playin' with Fire," and they execute them with a vengeance. The audience sings along in glorious parts and the version on this one of the fantastic Gary Glitter tune "Do You Wanna Touch Me? (Oh Yeah)" is the best I've ever heard. Love that barre pattern! There's a really good version of Tommy James & The Shondells' immortal classic "Crimson & Clover" too. Love that song! Go ahead and listen to a track or two with your computer speakers, but it's massive on a real system. Joan Jett & the Blackhearts 12/27/80 The Bottom Line NYC FM 1/03/82 320 Club NYC FM Rebel Rebel 5/28/82 Westfahlenhalle, Dortmund, Germany (pro) dvd, vcd 12/04/82 NHK Hall Tokyo, Japan FM |
even though i love the runaways and their original version of cherry bomb kicks mega ass and i know i'll probably get killed on here for saying this, but i prefer bratmobile's cover of cherry bomb.

Listening to the mp3s now. Great to hear. Joan seems to be one of the few from her era to have come out with her reputation intact (Lemmy being another obvious candidate) - largely be refusing to deviate from a tried and trusted formula (as with Lemmy). The sound quality is immense. Thanks. Anyway, these things don't really bother me but I thought it was a nice gesture of Gibson to award her with a signature guitar. |
Just bought the "Runaways/Queens of Noise" 2CD set - yay.
The Joan Jett Melody Maker looks v nice - I'd like to have one in red. |
Speaking of signature guitars, It's weird that Gibson have never done one for Johnny Thunders. I'm sure it'd be far more commercially viable than a lot of the other ones you see. Anyway, I'm drifting off topic here so ...

live in japan is the shit
|
just picked up a used copy of live in japan, and i have to thank melly for starting this thread to have put in my head to finally get it
|
Am about to listen to my Runaways CDs - perfect rock and roll will prevail now.
pantophobia - thankx for the nice words :) |
overrated. and ugly too.
|
Very nice, Crumbs Crunchy Delights. But enough about me.

your name is an anagram of sodomy smelling which coincidentally is the name of my guard's dog
|
Sodomy always smells good, unless your partner has an unclean bottom. [/end Melly "advice"]

ass never smells good |
^^^I'd answer that, but, er, I don't have a witty comeback.
*Looks on "gayadvice.com" for witty comeback* *fails* |
i'm going to wear a sign on my ass that says exit only
i have a phobia of anything to do with asses i think, sexual and non sexual. |
Asses are weird, eh? Why us gays like 'em is an enigma...but they're soooo cute and sexee (well, at least some of 'em anyway).
|
true
why is it that english men have NO ASS? |
It's like the eternal question, "Why do Englishmen have such rotten teeth?".
My ass is just fine, not bad for a 37 year old. Nicely toned by all the cycling I do. Blimey, talk about too much information - let me know if this is making you feel all nauseous *passes Cantanky sick bag* |
haha i don't have a weak stomach, i think i can handle ass-chat
like, either you've all got tiny asses or they're completely flat, i've noticed this in a bunch of people i suppose it's good if you like wearing tight pants :D |
I can't wear tight pants anymore. I leave that to Russell Brand and Noel Fielding. A couple of years before I came out (and could wear tight jeans), I used to get many an admiring glance and smile from my fellow gays on Old Compton Street. Damn, I should've taken advantage of all that then *slaps head in annoyance*
|
whatever happened to the days of guys wearing pants too tight to wear underwear with them?
