Man, my teeth are fucked by coffee too. Ugh. I should get them seen to, but I dread to think how much the dental bill would be...

gmku 08.20.2008 11:40 AM

Teeth are a hassle.

!@#$%! 08.20.2008 11:40 AM

i find it odd that the oddity thread is all about fashion, a subject i don't give a fuck about. im not protesting-- it's just... odd.

Cantankerous 08.20.2008 11:41 AM

i've thought about getting veneers but i'll probably just get my teeth whitened and see how they look from there.

gmku 08.20.2008 11:42 AM

The oddest things to me seem to be about what people oddly choose to wear.

I'm shallow that way, but I blame it on my men's clothing retail background (worked in a dept store in college).

But I'm not limited to that. Many other things seem odd. Those are just the most immediately obvious to me.

Cantankerous 08.20.2008 11:43 AM

i find it odd when obese people decide to wear shorts and show off their pasty cellulite and varicose veins and fat rolls.

demonrail666 08.20.2008 11:44 AM

Couples that sit in a restaurant and then never speak to one another. I can't decide if that's odd, or just plain depressing.

Yeah, but have a dentist do it. I don't have a lot of confidence in the off-the-shelf products.

Yeah. I see that a lot. The dude will stare past her off into space--or just as bad, up at the sports TV screen. The girl will sit there staring at him, waiting for him to look at her. It is sad.

I'll get mine done too (eventually...), but it never lasts that long with me, alas.

Another oddity - people who wear sunglasses whilst on the Underground/metro...only a few cool people can get away with that power move. Everyone else should pack it in. Now!

oh i do that. i wear them everywhere though.

gmku 08.20.2008 11:47 AM

Speaking of restaurants....

TVs in restaurants. A big pet peeve of mine. Especially when the volume is so loud you can't have a conversation with the person sitting across from you.

There is that. There should be a balance, though. Nice conversation. My big rule about eating anywhere together, restaurant or at home, is that we never talk about anything unpleasant or difficult. Totally wrong.

i love sitting at the bar and watching the football (soccer for you dullards) game though. but yeah in a restaurant, televisions don't belong.

al shabbray 08.20.2008 11:48 AM

even if most of them wearing them from time to time but I think shorts on men arent good looking in general.
even if its shit-hot I would never wear a short, except for swimming

gmku 08.20.2008 11:49 AM

I feel really silly when I wear sunglasses anywhere but out in the sun. I've tried it, and I think people are thinking, Why are you trying to look cool?

God, I couldn't eat in a restaurant with a TV in it, especially if the sound is turned up. That'd drive me insane.

Music's OK, but nothing to obtrusive. Some Enya or something.

Cantankerous 08.20.2008 11:50 AM

i like wearing them because it's dimmer and i can see better.

I used to feel that way, but this summer I bought some really comfortable linen shorts. They're appropriate for some occasions. For example, we met some friends at a beach house and went for a boat ride and had dinner at a seaside restaurant. Totally comfortable and easy. And allowed me to blend in as everyone else was in shorts.

demonrail666 08.20.2008 11:51 AM

If I see someone wearing sunglasses when it's not sunny, I immediately assume they have a lazy eye.

Cantankerous 08.20.2008 11:52 AM

i just hate bright light, indoors or outdoors.

al shabbray 08.20.2008 11:52 AM

yes when it comes down to comfortable things shorts are good!
but if you compare them to a normal length pant, the short cant win!

It's way too common in the states. You can still go to the finer restaurants and find quiet, but most of the places the masses go all have some kind of TV going.

They're not always appropriate, it's true. Case in point, I interviewed a prof last week who was wearing shorts in his office. But then again, he was also wearing his polo shirt tucked into his shorts and had a belt on, and sported bright white Nike shoes w/ white athletic socks. So... .

Oh, you're allowed that power move :) (besides, I like your specs - they need to be worn out and about as often as possible).

al shabbray 08.20.2008 11:55 AM

cant find any words desribing my feelings about that image in m head right now

I saw that in some kind of Sports bar/restaurant in Ohio, but I just assumed it was a sports thing. For it to go on more generally is quite sad. Takes the whole TV dinner thing to a new level.

Cantankerous 08.20.2008 11:57 AM

i hate shorts on men.

Yes, and the regular sight of Melly out shopping in his high-cut satin disco shorts, even in the pouring rain, is one that will forever haunt me.

Okay, a couple of non-fashion oddities to report. One comes straight from my personal life: I've been assigned to write a story about a gun-proponent professor, that is, a prof (not the same aforementioned) whose research is all about how gun control is wrong. As you know, I'm totally of the other mind.

Secondly, I just learned that Daniel Craig, who plays the gun-toting James Bond, is reportedly afraid of guns and is actually an anti-gun proponent in the U.K.

Pfft, you're just jealous cause you dig my cute ass, sweetie :p

demonrail666 08.20.2008 12:02 PM

I don't so much find this odd, as utterly fucking annoying: small children in pubs! This drives me mental. A lot of adults go to the pub to get away from kids. To find yourself being surrounded by the little fuckers while trying to do the Sun crossword is hell itself.
