Yeah, good point. I'd change my vote if there were an option. |
Interestingly enough I just purchased ''In The Fishtank'', and I think I've been let down by it. Sonic Youth, Ab Baars, I.C.P, The Ex. Then again how could a session NOT sound like it did with all those people in the same room.
For the record my vote was cast for Silver Sessions, simply because it makes me feel better than all the other ep's listed. |

Thirded. |
Turn it up! is a huge memory for me, so I voted for it (even if it's not the best quality).
|
silver sessions beyond a shadow of a doubt..... possibly the sonics best record. not for the tunes but for the whole concept!
|
what exactly is the concept?

"Silver Sessions were taken from an evening when SY had to do vocal overdubs for 'A Thousand Leaves' -- the band upstairs was hammering out some funky metal overdrive and we couldn't "sing" properly (?!) -- we decided to fight fire with molten lava and turned every amp we owned on to 10+ and leaned as many guitars and basses we could plug in against them and they roared/HOWLED like airplanes burning over the pacific -- we could only enter the playing room with hands pressed hard against our ears and even then it was physically stunning -- we ran a sick outmoded beatbox through the P.A. and it blew out horrendous distorted pulsations. Of course we recorded the whole thing and a few months later we mixed it down into sections, ultra-processing it to a wholly other "piece" -- in a way, it's my favorite record of ours -- I hope Jason [Knuth, to whom the release is dedicated] digs it --- keep on keep on keep on --- thurston/sonic youth/nyc 1998." |
I didnt include KILL YR IDOLS because if its inclusion on CONFUSION. I did consider it, but was trying to go for the less discussed EP's.

It's only in recent years that it got added to the Confusion is Sex cds. The first couple rounds didn't have it. But you're probably right, if it was on the list you wouldn't have a competition. |

That's what I meant. Right. |
Tough call. Whores Moaning has 'Tamra' on it, which is one of the best improvisational pieces they've ever done; Dirty Boots is as close as they've come to an official live album of 'mainstream' tracks (which, as we've discussed elsewhere, should be reissued as a full-length); and The Silver Sessions stands out as feedback noise at its purest. Tough call, indeed.
|
Bumping this one. I voted Silver Sessions, and it looks like many people agreed with me.
|
Dirty Boots is good too though.
|
Yeah but nowhere as good as Silver Sessions. Silver Sessions are otherwordly
|
Um....wasn't Sonic Youth (1982) originally an EP? I'm just sayin.
|

Oh. I see. |

If that was an option, it would definitely get my vote. Other than that? Hard to say. Can't narrow it down to just one really.... Some I either just don't dig too much, or it depends on my mood. ~Jeremy~ |

Yeah, awesome stuff on that EP. |
Kill Yr Idols or Silver Sessions. Why isn't KYI in the poll?
|
I've always stayed away from Silver Sessions - the description sounded more like a random racket than a cool experiment (even the band couldn't enter the room and all) - but RE-reading that description - I see the mixdown changed the sound somewhat... may have to check that out. Kali Yug gets my vote from the others I know...
And now I have to go out and buy MORE SY music... you people... gonna make me go broke [smirk]! |
