Ah.

noisereductions 09.18.2008 08:01 AM

I agree that IN UTERO sounds the best, but songwise, I'd prefer INCESTICIDE or even NEVERMIND.

I wish NEVERMIND was completely recorded like "Territorial Pissings."

SonicBebs 09.18.2008 08:01 AM

i think i like Milk It or Very Ape best

Trasher02 09.18.2008 08:02 AM

The only song I really really dislike on in utero is Rape me but the rest is great. I miss the comfort in being saaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad

This Is Not Here 09.18.2008 08:02 AM

I have this album of white-vinyl LP, and it's one of my most loved records. However, that said Bleach and In Utero do probably win over the unplugged set, simply because they seem a little too tame on that recording. I don't really care for Incesticide very much.

atsonicpark 09.18.2008 08:02 AM

I really like Incesticide. It's uneven, obviously, but it has some of their best songs on it, like "Beeswax".

tourettes is probably my favourite song on that record

In a sense I think that if you have INCESTICIDE and UNPLUGGED then you've pretty much got a two-hour summary of Nirvana. Uneven? yes. But honest-- all over the place, influence-wise, but touching upon everything that they sound like -- be it , uh plugged or unplugged.

I've always loved Hairspray Queen.

I'm pretty sure I changed my user name to Hairspray Queen at some point? Perhaps I spelt it wrong of some shit and that's why I never used it.

Yes, I'm aware of that but it's more known as Where did you sleep at night than How do you sleep at night, which is, like melly said, totally different song.

EMMAh 09.18.2008 08:45 AM

When my dad sings it, it's always the black girl version.

different lyrics? Dn't know that version.

"In The Pines" is the best title.

EMMAh 09.18.2008 09:16 AM

Eh, I don't really know.

He just says black girl instead of my girl. My dad is an old drunk though, so who knows...

noisereductions 09.18.2008 09:29 AM

haha

radarmaker 09.18.2008 09:45 AM

A lot of the different versions featured slightly different lyrics, or completely different verses in some cases. Leadbelly originally recorded it as "Black Girl".

Some history on Wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/In_The_Pines

noisereductions 09.18.2008 10:04 AM

The Leadbelly version I have is "In The Pines" on his record called GOODNIGHT IRENE.

Derek 09.18.2008 10:40 AM

Record is okay, loved it when I was younger!

Oh yeah, and Pagoda are hilarious...

noisereductions 09.18.2008 10:54 AM

I have that Pagoda album... I figured it was on Ecstatic Peace!, so it was worth a listen. I think I listened to it once.

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 12:46 PM

their version of where did you sleep last night is incredible

i like the DVD more than i like the album so probably it's my favourite album behind in utero and incesticide.

This Is Not Here 09.18.2008 12:54 PM

I like how barely anyones mentioned Nevermind on this thread. Is it just too obvious or what?

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 12:59 PM

bleach is my least favourite and nevermind is my 2nd least favourite but i still like both of those records

punkaspoo 09.18.2008 01:01 PM

I prefer Nevermind over In Utero. Perfect piece of music. I have always troubles to decide which is my favorite, Bleach or Nevermind.

demonrail666 09.18.2008 01:03 PM

I've never actually heard this one OR Nevermind. I feel like the kid at school who never saw Star Wars or had a BMX.

EMMAh 09.18.2008 01:09 PM

Thinking about it now, I don't really have a set favorite Nirvana album.

It all depends on my mood really.

punkaspoo 09.18.2008 01:14 PM

Actually Nirvana was better live, so Muddy Banks would be an ideal choice.

noisereductions 09.18.2008 01:27 PM

I'm not afraid to say I prefer NEVERMIND over IN UTERO. IN UTERO sounds better b/c of Albini. But again, I think the set of songs on NEVERMIND are far supperior track for track.

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 01:59 PM

in utero is near perfect. the only song i don't like that much is very ape and radio friendly unit shifter. my favourite song on it is scentless apprentice

SonicBebs 09.18.2008 02:08 PM

the 2nd half of Nevermind is excellent still, but the 1st half lets it down.

maybe we've all heard those songs so often that they've become like water, you can appreciate it but its not really exciting anymore

noisereductions 09.18.2008 02:26 PM

side 2 is flawless.

Derek 09.18.2008 03:06 PM

In Utero is their best! It's the one that most reflects what Kurt wanted to do with his music.

But ehh, I don't really listen to Nirvana anymore so I dunno, I'd have to listen to them again!

Sheriff Rhys Chatham 09.18.2008 03:11 PM

My favorite track from this is "In the Pines" or whatever it is called, a great cover.

noisereductions 09.18.2008 03:13 PM

My actual favorite song on the set is "Oh Me." I just think it's done so pefectly.

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 03:50 PM

im watching the DVD

he's so beautiful

noisereductions 09.18.2008 07:36 PM

That DVD is really amazing. I'm so glad they included all the extra bits. It just captivates me every time I watch it.

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 07:38 PM

it's so much better than the one they aired on MTV, they cut all the good shit out of that

"PLAY RAPE ME!"
"...was that Kennedy?"
"I don;t think MTV would let us play that..."

noisereductions 09.18.2008 07:40 PM

hahahaha

Plus he smokes a lot more on the DVD.

gmku 09.18.2008 07:41 PM

It's the one Nirvana album I don't own, probably because I ran out and picked up a bootleg CD of the show like a week after it aired. I don't think the song list is quite the same, but the sound quality is comparable.

I keep looking for this to show up in the vinyl bins some day.

Cantankerous 09.18.2008 07:41 PM

i think they're marlboro light 100s. they look like chick cigarettes.

gmku 09.18.2008 07:42 PM

You mean, like how I'm going to say I fucking love it and will post a photo of my two LP copies and also remind you that I have 4 CD copies?

noisereductions 09.18.2008 07:42 PM

Nice!
