it's cool. I just thought maybe you weren't into the board as much. I'm so used to comparing my hip hop collection to yrs.

The only out of print Zappa album is Crusing With Reuben And The Jets by The Mothers of Invention. It's really a shame too because it is fantastic and one of the Mothers' best. There was a version released on cd but it is not the same albumm. Not even close. Zappa completely re-recorded it with Ike Willis and Chad Whackerman and re-released it as the same album, his biggest mistake in my opinion. Zappa's 80's band is awesome (they still play shows under the name Project Object) but digitally inserting them into a 60's Mothers of Invention album was really bad. The original mix of this album only exists in used vinyl.

I got the Ryko reissue of that one.

Haha I need to go get some more classics. Which brings me to something I've been meaning to ask, for the money, should I get All Eyez on Me first? It's expensive but I've heard its pac's best.
And would you get the first wu tang album or liquid swords first?

SuperCreep 05.27.2009 10:23 PM

The re-recorded version of We're Only in it for the Money is one of the worst things I've ever heard.

EyeballGrowth 05.27.2009 11:30 PM

That's how I feel about crusin with reuben and the jets

viewtiful_alan 05.28.2009 12:06 AM

Yeah my dad has an unfortunate reissue that has the rerecorded WOIFTM and Lumpy Gravy on one disc.
Sound is way too condensed, plus the rerecordings are just odd and unnecessary.

dionysusundone 05.28.2009 02:40 AM

Didn't know that about Reuben...always wondered why I didn't like that one much.

EyeballGrowth 05.28.2009 06:42 AM

I own the original vinyl of Crusing With Reuben And The Jets. I will ship it to anyone who can transfer it to mp3

noisereductions 05.28.2009 07:12 AM

1. I see CRUISING WITH RUBEN all the time at my local. It's OOP? Weird. I should grab it. It's actually towards the top of my list of want-next-Zappa-albums.

2. You don't own ANY 2Pac??? Damn. Well if you don't have any, I'd suggest ALL EYEZ of course, which is basically an epitome of 90's West Coast Gangsta Rap. And one of a few double albums I couldn't quite imagine cut down to a single disc. But at the same time, my favorite LP would be ME AGAINST THE WORLD. Totally different album. Very introspective. If you want the best representation of the 2Pac (the character), get ALL EYEZ. If you want a closer listen to the thoughts of Tupac Shakur (the person), go with ME AGAINST.

I found a FLAC vinyl rip of Cruising With Ruben & The Jets. I haven't heard the original mix either, so I'm pretty psyched to hear it if it's going to make a difference. I've never been too fond of the album.

I'll transfer it to 320 mp3 and upload it here later.

Will totally rep ya.

There aren’t many people in this world of Gucci-stank and lost hobo dreams that have earned my unadulterated respect, but Zappa has. I'm not a huge fan of his music aside from WEASELS and MONEY, but man... 200 Motels is amazing. Also, anyone with the balls to put out like 3 hours of nothing but guitar solos is pretty insane.

noisereductions 05.28.2009 10:22 AM

^agreed.

And seriously, WE'RE ONLY IN IT is one of the most truly insane albums ever. It's really unbelievable. The melodies seem effortless. It's so great. And strange. I love it.

atsonicpark 05.28.2009 10:25 AM

Yeah, I love love love that album. I dunno, I like quite a few but weasels ripped my flesh and only in it for the money are the only ones I ever really break out.

noisereductions 05.28.2009 10:28 AM

1. believe it or not, I still don't have Weasels. I plan on it. But everytime I see it, it's too much $.

2. believe it or not, I listen to SHIP ARRIVING a lot. I mean A Lot. Once you sort of get into that album, it's so uinque and great. And the title track is ridonk.

3. The one I'm really after right now is THE BEST BAND YOU NEVER HEARD IN YOUR LIFE. That's the live one that has a lot of F'd up covers on it.
