I've always liked Disconnection Notice the best because of the line "don’t think i know what to read or write or say." Oh yes.

Idontcareican 07.04.2006 03:11 PM

I find myself getting really introspective with this album.

Picked it up at Twist and Shout in Denver on the day of the SY show last week. First I'd heard it. I was drawn in immediately and continuing to enjoy the whole thing. Disconection Notice, is the one I sing the most ! :) I've had all my SY in heavy rotation for my cd player. I really, really like this band today, more than ever. And still more in the tomorrows as I get the rest of their cd's.

Either you get it or you don't. That seems harsh but essentially thats where everything stands, some people will get it and some won't. Granted, you have to give it a chance, listen to it a lot. Take a break and then listen to it more. After that if you still don't like it then well you don't like it and thats your opinion, which is ok to have.

I always thought that in Plastic sun when Kim says "throw the dog a bone and you still get rabies" some beautiful noise would have been perfect, like in radical adults

i just picked up murray street at the denver show also. i think its amazing, ive got a new found respect for all their latest, rather ripped, murray, and sonic nurse. all great. murray street, i love karen revisited for the first three minutes, i just cant do that noise for that long. let the flames begin, but the rest of that album is stunningly beautiful.

gmku 07.06.2006 10:15 AM

I honestly have to say there's nothing SY has done that I don't like. I love their 90s output. What's amazing about it all is that each album is different enough from the last one to make it interesting.

But out of their 90s stuff, I'd rank Goo number one and Rather Ripped number two, followed closely by all the rest.

Yeah, that's really dumb, ranking them like that. But what can I say.

Karenology's noise section is absolutely perfect.

Whatever... I'm entitled to my bullshit opinions as much as anybody else.

_slavo_ 07.06.2006 11:45 AM

noone has mentioned Empty Page yet. I love that track no doubt...it clearly belongs to my top 5 SY songs ever

Rather Ripped came out last month, how can you say it's "enduring?"

Tokolosh 07.06.2006 01:04 PM

Chill gmku. I think you misunderstood me there.
It's just that I got a little confused with how you wrote that.
Sorry for sounding rude.

fluxequalsrad 07.06.2006 03:16 PM

Empty page used to be my favorite sonic youth song.

scott v 07.06.2006 04:44 PM

how is rather ripped considered a "90's" album???

its like am i in a time warp? is it still 1999???

rather ripped is a 00's album...

I agree. Sonic Youth sounded better than they ever have live on many dates of the Murray Street tours. This carried over into some of the Sonic Nurse shows too.
Still, there's lots of great shows from every period, so the above statement is a broad generalization.
For instance, some of the Goo tour is tops for me, but, on the other hand, some of it isn't all that remarkable.

I disagree. I don't like the way the guitar is produced at all on Karen Revisited, although the live outro that was tacked on sounds incredible. That song got really screwed up on the record from what it could have been. Karenology, from the live shows, was a real highlight of some of the sets.

You think so? I didn't want to be a buzzkill or anything, but I thought the DC show was by far the least awesome that I've ever seen them.
