As a jaded smug twat, I'm just a bit jaded by the whole twattery, twattishly.

I forgot about them too!

a bunch of scientists who dismiss religion and religious culture without actually using any science to do so (in the same line of thinking as abolitionists who harbored racist sentiments)..

if you dismiss religion because of science, but don't offer any substance or scientific argument, what is the point? Having blind-faith in Atheism is as much a religion as having blind-faith in a God. Same shit, different toilet.

On the otherside of the coin, religious nuts who misunderstand the very point of religion, arguing for literal interpretations of books of religious song and poetry and legend, and yet do not use their religion for spiritual, personal or emotional growth, rather are not even very religious in the first place.. but they argue against science and reason, things they rarely delve into at all!

Science, quit being such assholes. Religion, give science a break, its in its relative infancy, some 400 odd years of history compared to thousands of years of cultural traditions, heritage, and chief amongst it, bagage.

You can't call a national sport racist now, can you?

Also, I'm pretty sure that to qualify as a race you have to not be on strike all the time.

gmku 09.05.2009 06:48 PM

Ha ha. What a funny fucking thread.

For me:

Men's shorts, especially if there's a shirt tucked into them and they have a belt and/or are worn with socks and Nikes.

Not much else offends me, because I realize that whatever potentially might offend can be chalked up to the basic ignorance of 90 percent of those who make up the human race.

static-harmony 09.05.2009 08:12 PM

Nothing really, well people but that is too broad.

Anyone who reduces things like racism, misogyny, homophobia and their general outrage about human misery to sound bites, vague assertions of one's ego, or an inconsequential, but successful lifestyle is bound to offend me, at one point or another.

Glice offends me too. Pity he is so inoffensive, though.

floatingslowly 09.05.2009 08:42 PM

girlgun's racism offends me.

and by that, I mean, when the neighbor's dog really was named Kanye, I was offended at the universe.

that kind of shit really makes it hard to be condescending.

amerikangod 09.05.2009 09:14 PM

I don't know if I've ever been offended. Getting offended is for 19 year-old lesbian political science majors on their periods.

There are and will always be the crazies in ANY movement or cause who take things too far. The fact that people are constantly equating vocal feminists with being feminazis just proves how much work the women's movement needs to do. People continue to get that knee-jerk reaction when women come together and speak up. They think that it must be crazy radicalism. They think that feminists must be out there to convert the masses and force their ideology down the throats of the masses. Total bull.

I identify as a radical feminist (as in i believe in addressing root causes of gender inequalities, not just barbie doll imagery) and I'm sick of people confusing that w me wanting a matriarchy. I don't want a matriarchy, however I know that I have to continue to be loud and assertive in order to just be treated on an equal plane. If you are quiet or allow yrself to forget shit won't get done and history will repeat itself. Women who are too vocal about feminism tend to not be taken seriously. I've already gotten shit on this board for proclaiming my feminism, and I'm sure that I'll continue to get more.

Also, there is a lot of diversity within the feminist movement and I'm sick of people thinking that feminists all think alike. We are not sheep. That mentality really irks and offends me.

Satan 09.06.2009 01:38 PM

nyf that rep should have a smiley face not -0 whatever the fuck i typed, i suck

but yeah anyway i'm gonna actually have to agree with you because youre obviously not a man hater and obviously realize that men and women are different but above gender we are humans and all deserve to be treated as such. +1

This is why I cannot advocate any kind of feminist arguments. Unfortunately, the argument of "you don't have a vagina so you have no authority" has effectively silenced me on the issue. And unlike men who call themselves "feminists" out of principle (sway being an example), I think engaging on the inner-discourse of feminism is an essential element of being a feminist. This is kind of the same problem I've had with race theory, even though I advocated philosophy that was considered too radical for some members of racial minorities.

Satan 09.06.2009 02:36 PM

i'm not a feminist, i'm a humanist.

It's a very tricky one. I don't believe that a lack of vagina precludes a person entirely from a dialogue on feminism, but it's certainly a difficulty. I personally abide by matrix models of gender/ sex/ sexuality and emphasise the role of self-identity.

I think it's potentially very dangerous to compare feminism to 'race theory'. Since when was whatever ethnicity you believe yourself to be (again, allowing for self-identity) not a part of 'race'?

The thing for me is that while I might be one of those ghastly men - worst of all, a white one - it's counter-productive to assume that just because I have (massive) protruding genitals I'm thereby unable to empathise with another's position. I can't think like a woman in general but then no individual woman can speak for women in general and be entirely correct.
