I resent the sexualization of this thread, can't we talk about a female artist and the overwhelmingly quality of her art with out necessarily looking at her twat? jesus, did we have a decade long riot grrl movement for nothing :/
I have never seen anyone mention thurston moore's dick ONCE on this SYG in over six years of posting here, and yet I have seen just about every female artist sexualized, its a shame truly. I love PJ, her style is wild, the guitar work is fierce, the music is somber with teeth, her voice is mesmerizing, her lyrics are potent, she was supposed to be on deftones knife party which would have simply perfected that tune, but I love her, especially "Uh Huh Her" |
Lady GaGa on the other hand *holds out little finger*

that "written on the forehead" song is quite good. i didn't know what to think of it at first, but it's been growing on me.
can't wait to hear this. thankfully it won't be too long. |
i've been listening to a LOT of polly jean lately... mostly it's been the 4 track demos for rid of me, so good. finally starting to dig white chalk as well.
|
To me PJ is greatest woman artist in the world! Even greater than Kate Bush and Björk.
|
The new song is strange, I don't know what to think about it really. I'm not really feeling the production. But I trust the rest of the album will be good, it's good to see her lyric writing (based on that NME sneak-peak article) has reached new heights. I've always wanted to hear something more definitively "English" from her (White Chalk had elements of English folk in there). I think this will satisfy.

Thurston just isn't attractive. I'll talk all day about how much I'd fuck Jamie Stewart or Jake Gylenhaal. |

Oh, I haven´t heard she´s making new album! I like all of her albums, White Chalk was me so beatiful album a long time, that it was hard to understand how somebody human can make that kind of album. But then I thought A Woman A Man Walked By was even better. So I got great expectations for her new album!!! By the way, what is name of her new song? |

yeah, talk about his dick. we talk about jamie stewart's cock because he started it. |

Another great track! So far my favourite is still "Written In The Forehead", though. I can't hardly wait for her new record to be released. |
Quote:
FUCKING AWESOME!!!! One of the few female artists I truly respect. |

i have not heard her for a while but she was really good at atp a few years back and i like the earlier stuff she did.

you really are an idiot. |

Doesn't mean much coming from someone who thinks ghosts are real. And who also thinks every man on the planet is sexist. |

Quote:
And this coming from someone trying to put out a compilation where every song will be at a different volume. Brilliant! (Please take me off of it BTW). |
Quote:
You are an idiot. Please get him off the compilation. Volumes are important. |
Quote:
Boo!!! Yes, volumes are important and they are being ignored on the comp (which is as stupid as believing ghosts are real). |
Quote:
No need for witty remarks now. Don't you have any volumes to fix? |
Quote:
Every day of every week pretty much. I run a studio. |
Quote:
I'll recommend you next time a friend asks where to go to get perfect volumes. |
Quote:
Sorry, I'm booked solid. |
Quote:
Of course. |

Ya know... ghost Elvis, ghost Tupac, ghost Hendrix, ghost cobain. Booked solid. ![]() |

Also, your track (?) was shit anyway, so you're out. Fuck off. Nobody needs to listen to that. Probably I'll up it on here at one point for people to have a laugh. |
Quote:
is this supposed to embarass me or you? |
I wanna listen to it. Hevusa please upload it - I wanna hear a track with good volumes.
|
Quote:
it is the volume in context to other songs, not just the volume of any one song. but of course you knew that. ;) |
Quote:
Good. I don't want it on a compilation that isn't going to be done right anyway. |
Quote:
where's the song? |
Quote:
there can't be only one song. sorry, you aren't getting this. |
it's ok.
|
i can't believe this is happening in a thread about something interesting, hevusa ruins everything
|
Quote:
hahaha. I love PJ Harvey!!!! |
well, I don't know what to think about the new songs.

No? I am in LUV with the few new songs I've heard. Enough so that I will buy her new album for sure. Maybe they will grow on you? |
There's a vid of her playing Last Living Rose last year with an Airliner guitar live and it sounds way better than the studio version. The Glorious Land is sort of corny, and The Words That Maketh Murder, despite being catchy as fuck, gets a bit taxing with that "United Nations" line (even if it is an Eddie Cochran rip). The first thing I thought was "Arcade Fire could very well have written the same song and I would detest it." So I gotta be honest, I'm not always down for the aesthetic she's going for with this and I was worried she was turning into a dreadful Joanna Newsom lite, or entering her own "Nocturama" doldrums, or fancying herself a woodland nymph comely faerie queen on this album, BUT:
After hearing clips of the entire record, I have to say... Damn, these are her most memorable melodies since Is This Desire. I am always partial to roaring 4-Track Demos rage, but On Battleship Hill is exquisite. She sounds like a siren and at her most English. All these hack writers mythologize about her traipsing around Dorset cliffs like some Victorian spinster and this is the first time that image is really evoked. Fuck you, Bat for Lashes. I love All & Everyone and England, at least from what I can glean. The vaguely political lyrics aren't really important. The songs hint at being very strong and somewhat traditional without sounding too safe. Fuck you, Bat for Lashes. All the bluesey American-isms are gone and she's come full circle, I think. One of the few rock artists who has evolved without making too many glaring missteps. Most of my friends lost interest after To Bring You My Love, but fuck em, if I was actively creating music I'd probably get bored of noisy rock after a while too. I still hope she busts out some of the early rockers on tour like she did in 2007. When I saw her she was playing solo - guitar, piano, autoharp, synth. That show remains one of the live highlights of my life. |
