Of course people chat about whatever tickles their fancy on the non-sonics section, it's there for that reason, but two-thirds of this forum are meant for music-related things, and it's been a while since the activity on there (the non-sonic sounds especially) has scaled down due to the overwhelming amount of mutual masturbation that goes on here daily. Fair enough, it's an internet forum like there a million others (I post on another two regularly), albeit one of one my favourite bands.

I'm not trying to justify or condone anything. that would imply that I had a vested interest in the non-sonic sounds section. I don't. saying that it feels like prickery doesn't mean that I'd want it to continue as such. again, don't care so much about that sub-forum. when I want to talk about music, I do it "IRL".

what I meant by "there is no point" is: to many music threads become about who posted what first. there's too much perception of intellectual ownership here.

It's a message board and a pretty good one. Good enough that a lot of the regulars seem to come to ridiculously high expectations for a message board. Bad idea to have those sort of expectations for a human being, for a message board, just silly.

Hang on a second, you don't have any interest in the non-sonic sounds section, yet you know there is too much ''intellectual ownership'' on the threads posted on it, and are filled with ''who posted what first'' attitude?

I disagree with this. Some posters, unlike others, have high expectations because of the band in question, not particualrly because of most SY fans posting on their forum. I am only guessing, I would never be able to know that for sure.

And even if one has high expectations because of SY, there are different types of fan on here. I, for one, don't care for listening to every single fart Thurston Moore or Lee Ranaldo produce live, others do. Some other fans get particularly emotional if someone says that Kim Gordon regularly wets her bed. I don't, others don't, some do etc etc.

I find this place Kick-Ass. I've been turned on to a lot of new music. Seen some incredible art work, some real intelligence from some poster some real hilarious stuff here as well. I've learnt new software tricks. I've witness folks bear their soul and other jump into help, how cool is that? Sure you have some trolling and he said she said but for the amount of good stuff I get here I rate this place a 9. Thanks for making me feel young again:cool::cool:

noisereductions 10.30.2009 01:27 PM

204 posts. Yr still new here. Someone will piss you off eventually. Maybe it'll be me for pointing out yr low post-count. That makes me a prick, apparently. :)

Trasher02 10.30.2009 01:31 PM

Also, SYGmembers are spending too much time on discussing music! I mean, whatever happened to making informative/useful/personal threads that everyone just loves to read!

vulva 10.30.2009 01:37 PM

I wanna jerk off to something awful, like eyeball surgery. thanks SYG

alteredcourse 10.30.2009 01:47 PM

Blatant comment:It's a community.

It's amazing how some asinine mistake of a topic can turn into some decently thoughtful discussion. That's why I like it. Apologies if this is just mutual masturbation, but there are a few folks here whose comments I can relate to in an interesting way, otherwise can sometimes blow my mind. They keep me coming back.

Plus, I still do pick up quality music+book recommendations here from time to time.

notyourfiend 10.30.2009 01:48 PM

SYG totally kills my desire to "jerk off."

Rob Instigator 10.30.2009 02:04 PM

anyone remember the SNL skit about the guys who wished for "two real-life lesbians making out in front of them." and they got two very rough and tumble, unshaved, flannel sporting, Indigo Girl-like ladies reading poetry and "cuddling."????

that shit was funny, and one dude totally got off on it, while his buds weirded out.

sonic youth gossip is like a bad metaphor. at first it's kinda intriguing, but then you realize it's total and you are reading because you have no life.

pbradley 10.30.2009 02:58 PM

I should refrain from the internet when drunk.

Keeping It Simple 10.30.2009 03:06 PM

There's a pub opposite a branch of McDonalds in the town I live in and it's common to see drinkers walk out of the pub, pop into the McDonalds for a bite to eat, no doubt to sober up a little, and then walk back into the pub to continue drinking. Do you get that in the States?

In the states it's more like drinking til you puke in the alleyway and then going back into the bar to order another round

davenotdead 10.30.2009 03:09 PM

yeah puking is cheaper than Maccers

pbradley 10.30.2009 03:12 PM

It's clear McDonalds needs to build branches opposite bars in the States.

I was in McDonalds with a friend the other week when a guy popped in from the pub opposite, ordered a meal, and sat at a table near us. He took a few bites of the burger before he slowly dropped his head on the table and dozed off. It was pretty funny to see.

notyourfiend 10.30.2009 03:17 PM

Eating McDonalds alone makes me puke so I guess both ways serve the same purpose. I'd rather save my extra $2 for a drink special.

pbradley 10.30.2009 03:21 PM

One time my brother and I got smashed and then walked a distance to Carl's Jr. The sun was rising by the time we ate our burgers.

The beauty of McDonalds is the food is cheap. Clearly much cheaper than pub food, hence the regular visits from drinkers who spend the money they've saved on more booze! :)
