Da da da leads to shooby dooby doo, which is only a step away from scat. Which is unique in that both definitions are that it's, essentially, shit. Tread carefully young Herr fit.

DDD, have you ever actually listened to any of her albums?

But yes, da da is both dangerous and teutonic at times. |

Avril Lavigne - Tomorrow (acoustic)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SQryXpAuV-Y Stunningly beautiful performance. |
I never liked her, but now I hate her more.. this single is worthless. Didn't even think it was her first after hearing it on the radio. lol

Wow. |
^^Ya, she's like, so like, deep. For like, a priveledged middle class white girl.
|
When she can deliver a performance like this, I'll give a shit.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h4ZyuULy9zs |
Oh God, is this going to be your 'thing' now?
She's got a great voice. Lacking in biographical pathos, unlike Billie. Certainly. A better voice than Holiday in technical terms, a worse one in more meaningful ones (Holiday's got a lot more body, a more variable vibrato etc). Lavigne has a better voice than most; the content of the songs mightn't be interesting to most (fair enough), but... well, if you can be bothered to hate her, carry on. I think she's amazing. Meh. |
her voice is intolerable and the material is tripe
|
No no, I'm not harboring a "thing" just being a cunt :p
Technical terms, I suppose... I was talking with Eugene, I think the thing that bothers me is her accent shines through far too much. I like singers who you cannot tell where they are from when they sing. I can't stand the way she says "don't" in that song. To each his own. As far as current female POP artists, sure she's probably the best voice. As far as technical singers go, Carl Wilson/Brian Wilson/Mike Love were AMAZING. But beach boys get alot of shit on here. I just diss on avril so much because certain artists who are WAY more talented seem to get shit on here, and then weird, ironic choices like Avril get praise. And from what I understand, I don't think you guys are even really being ironic about it...Im just confused. But once again, taste, to each his own. To me, as far as white singers/techinical singers go, noone will EVER top "Our prayer-Gee" off of smile. As far as pop music goes, amazing choir sound, amazing melody, amazing harmonies. |
her voice is intolerable and the material is tripe

Ah, see, from my perspective we get a million people year in, year out, who do this identikit, non-locatable 'American' singing accent. I'm not advocating the Wurzels, but having a bit of an accent is really important, I think. I think the moment when British metal got shit was when they stopped singing in regional accents. Even if those accents were Brum. Quote:
I'm not, I doubt anyone else is. I'd rave about Christina's voice (probably better) if she did more than one song every 4 years I liked. But anyway. It's all good. I don't really like the Beach Boys, and I think they do very good things with fairly limited voices - that's the difference with them and Avril, I'd say. I mean, one of my other favourite singers is Mark E Smith, and he can't sing at all. |
How would you say the beach boys voices were limited?
They could do the white bread choir stuff, and in the 70s carl killed it with those soul vocals. Songs like "Darling" are way different than songs like "God Only Knows" which are in turn way different than "Help Me Rhonda" etc. It's cool if you don't like what they did with their voices tho. |
Well - it's a question of making the most of limited ranges. I haven't listened to BB for a long time, but if I remember rightly they're one of those bands who make interesting arrangements around not-exceptional ranges (which is, I suppose, the polar opposite of Celine Dion and Mariah Carey doing piss-dull arrangements on astonishing ranges). I'm not going back to the Beach Boys to remind myself though, so... yeah, I'm probably wrong.

Glice, baby. Your arguments get me so hot and bothered. By the by, I'm really enjoying this new Avril track. It's one of the few things I'm excited to hear when I'm listening to the radio at work. I think pop music is doing well right now. Katie Perry, Beyonce, and Rihanna all produce music I'm generally interested to hear and often times love. Now, we've got a new Avril? I'm so excited. |
this song is strongly representative of the USA to my mind. two other song do the same impression to me : sonic youth : I love her all the time and blink-182 : dumpweed.

If Avril had been around to write songs for The Runaways, they might've been one of the most perfect bands ever. No irony whatsoever. That's how good she is. |
Glice, if you're reading this, I TOTALLY understand what you were getting at about the production of Under My Skin now.
|
You say that as if there's a possibility I'm dead.
It's AMAZING, no? |
Very much so, Glice.
Avril's track by track commentary on the new album... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jiqg-o9teo I'm very pleased to hear that none of the other songs sound anything like the single. Way to go Avril! |

She's fucking gorgeous. Great live performance of Push too. Probably the new single. Here's What the Hell from the same set... http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jnL8ZyJf2pY |
Who's the drummer on the album tracks? Doesn't sound like Freese. It'd be a shame to lose him.
And before you start, I haven't got any money for albums at the moment and I don't really 'do' downloads of in-print stuff. |
The drums were done by Keith Armstrong, and Shellback? I guess this Shellback guy (band?) did a lot of the instrumentation on the album. Sounds good enough to me, though.
The only credit John Freese has is writing the lyrics for Not Enough. http://www.facebook.com/note.php?note_id=10150146988138023&comments&ref=mf |

Ah! What the Hell is Max Martin. That makes sense. He's pretty on fire at the moment after a few years of terror (thanks for the worst Britney singles, Max. And also thanks for the best ones). Shellback is his right-hand man/ lapdog - though I think he was mostly responsible for the great songs on Ke$ha's Animal.
That's an odd personnel list though. I'm not impressed to see Whibley still floating about. I hold him solely responsible for the shit bits in this. Clearly an Avril chorus though. |
Your knowledge of modern pop producers astounds me.
|
my goth playlist has 818 songs, so I'm afraid that I don't have time to bother with anything non-vampiric.
|
oh yeah, avril over 18 yet? if not, well there's the reason glice cares. if so, poAstnoodz (or stfugtfo).
|
I've been listening to this album non-stop, for the most part, all month. If you've ever considered yourself an Avril fan, you need to get this. End of story.
With that being said, my least favorite track, as expected, is the single, What the Hell. It is to Goodbye Lullaby, as Sk8r Boi was to Let Go. However, the acoustic version rules! All in all, Goodbye Lullaby is an amazing album for any and all Avril fans. Album of the yr. ... did I mention she covers Joan Jett at the end? |
Dood.....seriously......wtf.
